Fuzzy's minnow rig's
#1
I have been asked to show some of my minnow rig's by some of the members here at BFT..
most are very basic..
so here they are:
first it makes a big diffrence if the minnows are fresh or frozen.. fresh minnows are hard and firm and hold on the hook good..
frozen minnows go soft soon after thawing out..
so with a fresh minnow i dont have to worry much about the minnow comeing off to easy.. so a hook through the tail works good..
with a frozen minnow I rig some what diffrent rig.. I hook the once through the head part of the minnow then tie a half hitch in the line and tie it to the tail of the minnow.. this will keep the minnow from comeing off the hook easily..

now here is my most secret rig..
this one is best for big brown's in rivers and lakes.. it's also good when the fish are being realy hook shy as well.. (warning dont use this rig if you plan on releasing the fish.. it has a high mortality rate)

this one you need a minnow needle for.. tie a loop on your line take the needle start at the tail of the minnow pushing the needle through the minnow and out the mouth pulling the line through as well.. tie a small trable hook on the loop and pull it back tell the hook go's back in the mouth and is veary well hidden from the fish..

then there are other rig's I use for walleye that is easy and just a add on to the other rig's.. put a little corrky on the line before the hook.. this is the rig I have hit most the walleye i've cought at Utah lake..

hope this helps some of you out there with rigging minnows..

My new favorite, and easiest, way to hook up a minnow is with a treble hook. I use anything from size 18 to 10's. I just put one hook in the mouth and out a nostril and another hook in the bottom lip of the minnow. The third hook just hangs free. When I am fishing minnows dead on the bottom I have noticed the fish take the minnow head first so this way the hook is the first thing in and it helps our hook ups greatly. I occasionally have to cut a hook and leave it in a fish but that's better than killing a fish that I'm not going to keep.

This should help a lot of the members work out their details on jiggin' big guns.

Btw Ron,, have ya been down the road to "the secret spot" lately, lol..?? I'm just wandering how much water its packing? I'm guessing it now actually looks like a lake, right? LOL[Wink]

i was going to try and take my boat out there the other day but it was raining and there is no ramp there and the clay can get slimy down that way did not want to get stuck so stayed home..

Hey thanks for the insight I have always been nervous about using minnows because of lack of knowledge on getting then on the hook just right. Those pics are perfect now i just need to go dump my minnow trap into my parents stream to use them. hehe
