I just put some new maxima line on one of my reals and it didn't seem to matter wich way I reeled it on (over, under, same way it comes off the spool, oposite way it comes off, etc) it would explode off the reel if I give it any slack. I am leaving it in my truck now wich is warm and hoping that will do something to make it a little more flexible, but I am not sure what works the best. Does anyone have any advice for me?

You did not say what pound line it is, but in most cases you over load the spool or you are trying to use to heavy a line for the size of real.

I'd say the spool is overloaded like bassrods said. I seem to remember someone saying fill it to 1/4 inch of the lip of the spool.
Also you can try soaking the spool overnight in some water. I think that only works for monofilament line though.

it is 15lb test, but the reel is made to handle that, but It probably is on the loaded size, because I am going deep sea fishing with it and wanted to get as much length as I could out of it for deep fishing,

Hey sometimes depending on what kind of mono you use it has to be stretched before you use it. What i used to do in miami when the boat is going out i put a 4 ounce weight and let a lot of line out and then bring it in and its stretched to perfection.You have a boat right ?Next time you get on a lake do that.Hope this helps.What i do now i have my kids run down the block and hold the line and i stretch it that way too.

Some peoples kids! Jed you're over spooling. Fill your spool to 1/8 of the top or less, the the lines that are made today have alot less memory, so you need not to fill up your spools all the way. Most of the time, we waste good line as backing. Put some backing on first, then only use 100 yards(300 feet) or so as your main line. This should do unless you plan on fishing in the Pacific Ocean.

There is a depth restriction if we have to encounter it. 360 feet maximum = 120 yards. 150 yards would be sufficient for any spool.
There may be a chance for some Barracuda when you come out. I did place an order for some.[cool]

Hey Jed,
Like was mentioned, your reel is overloaded. There is a lip on the outside of your reel, just past that you will notice the rim of the spool - where that lip and the rim meet is the fill line of the spool. The fill line comes out to be about 1/8th inch from the top of the lip, or about even with the outside rim(you can generally eye-ball it accurately enough). If you overfill the reel by more than just a dozen yards or so, you will have exactly what you've described - a birds nest no matter what you do. After I respool, I put on a casting plug and go in the back yard and try a short cast - if it works I'm good to go, otherwise, I've only wasted a few minutes in my yard cutting off the overloaded portion that made the birds nest and didn't waste any on water fishing time.

Hey Jed, it just might be the maxima line. last year my son inlaw spooled up with maxima on a spinner and it did the same thing. I told him to cut off about 20 feet and try again, the same thing happend.
I haven't changed line brands in over 35 years, I use stren and will continue to use it forever. later chuck

you could also try running the spool of new line under hot water most times this will break down the memory of the mono. then run under cold for a min and line will have new memory. but if you are over spooled it wont help mutch.

thanks for all the advice. I actually soaked both spools under warm water for about 1/2 hour and they seem to be fine now. I have one reel full of the silverthread 20lb test so Don't worry TD I have the good stuff too. I put the maxima on my other two reels just in case I needed more distance,

i knew it would work if the spool was not over filled. as any plastic heat will soften it and cold will set it. just useless knolage .

eur 5500 or 6500 will do you a good job for the best price..
