Mirror Lake Highway/Trial Lake Area
#1
Anybody have any thoughts on how much the higher country is opened up. I read some posts and it appears that Murdock Basin is open and Trial (and I'm assuming Washington) lake is ice free and accessible.

I am planning on heading up to the Crystal Lake trailhead tomorrow and trying to hike in a few miles. Those lakes are always hot after ice off. But will they be ice free? How much snow really is up there? From say 9000' to 10500'? Don't mind walking over some snow drifts and getting messy if the lakes aren't frozen solid....which I've done before.

I'm just hoping someones been up there recently and any info is appreciated. I will post a report on Monday as to my findings.

Thanks

Report from last Sunday: Trial....1/2 iced off. MUCH snow around still. Take warm pants (not shorts) and possibly snowshoes as I suspect you'll have to cross some pretty big snow fields on the way in. I'm sure the ice is just coming off the lakes and the fishing should be good. Just go prepared for the snow.

Murdock basin was open a week ago, mostly anyways. I'd just bring plenty of socks and plan on running into some snow. With the warm weather lately, the lakes probably aren't frozen anymore. Good luck.

Thanks for the info. It has been my experience that once trial is thawed completely the lakes up above it, like Long and Island, are usually about a week behind. I love getting up there as soon as the lakes are fishable so it sounds like I'll give it a shot, though I've heard the weather might get nasty tomorrow. But, I don't mind getting wet as long as I'm not throwing a spinner onto a sheet of ice.

Thanks again, high uinta info can be hard to come by sometimes.
