Hey guys-
I've been swamped with a new job, and haven't had the opportunity to hit Jordanelle yet this year. I can't wait. The memories from last summer taking 20"+ smallies from the quiet RockCliffs area in my tube, are unforgettable.
I'm remembering back to last year at this time, and there were TONS of reports from many of us taking it to the smallies up there. It seems like there has relatively been a lot less smallie reports on the board from X so far this season.
Is it just me, or has the smallmouth action yet to take off for various reasons? Has the full reservoir made them more spread out, or more runoff = colder water = delayed spawn? It makes sense that a fuller reservoir would give the same number of fish more places to go, and make it harder to find them as they are less concentrated.
Or, for those who REALLY know what they are doing, (tomegun, predator, maniac, clif.....) has a great season of 6+ lb bass already begun? I'm willing to bet those guys find the fish wherever they are.
Anyways, I was just curious if anyone else thought it was any different, or if it was just me!
Thanks, Nate

[cool]I'd recommend sending a pm to CBR, bassrods, Predator or tomegun. Those fellers have been there quite a bit this year, but I'm pretty sure that they don't want to give away their favorite holes to just anybody to go and rape and pilledge them. So, senkonate, I'm sure that they'd probably let you know what's going on, but not just anybody (including the hundreds of lurkers, and others).
You may have not been around here the past week or two,but there was a report of a 23 inch smallie that was poached by some dumb@$$ redneck, and I think because of that, you aren't hearing as many reports on Lake X or at least not too many details of recent trips there.
Anyhooters, bottomline that I've heard through the grapevine is that Lake X is heating up for the smallies lately (and has been great for big browns and bows for a few months now). I'm sure if you went out around the same spots as last year and threw the same plastics, etc. at them, that you'll kick butt. However, the lake has risen several feet (20?) so you may have more structure to deal with etc. Anyway, hope this helped a bit and good luck when you go.

Until the Lake stabilizes, its going to be spotty. I haven't been up there in a week, so I don't know whats going on. Water is at an alltime high. Fish have been displaced due to too much acqua. A week ago it was starting to look promising. Trolling, powerbait, and nightcrawlers are still the bait of choice, and maybe a bikini or two will get the troutski's a going[ ]. If there are skiers, the big'uns will come out to play.

Glad to hear you might be able to go soon. The weather chased us away this Saturday, and we hit Deer Creek instead. The one time this season I made it up to last years "golden area" the water temperatures were fluctuating so much from the double barrelled runoff that I thought the temp gauge on my finder was malfunctioning. I'm sure that put a damper on the bass bite. The newer structure at R/C from the high water will be fun to explore and I'm sure it will be good in due time. I might give it a shot Friday or Saturday, depending on my work schedule.

Excellent! I had to work until 5PM [unsure] and by that time, the area was being hit with some nasty thunderstorms. We didn't want to chance it with float tubes.

Wow, I didn't get a hit Saturday am from 6:30 to 11. I was in a 'toon working a wacky rig Senko or a ratletrap along the south side of the Provo Arm. I even tried a jig on some ultralite gear for some perch and got jack. Wish I had even a smal portion of the luck/skill that you had. Probably saw you out there which boat was yours? I'll have to hit it again... Still seemed a lot different than last year with the high water and all.

I was with bassrods in his sweet bass boat. I believe it was white with blue/black trimming and MOJO ads allover it. We saw a coupel tooners and said hello and asked if they were from BFT since we noticed handhelds. The one we spoke to didn't know what BFT was.
If you want to hit Jordanelle in the future with me and my toon let me know. I fish Jordanelle lately average about twice a week. If you were using flies I don't know how much help I could be. I know wooley buggers in the shallows do really well there.

My 'toon has a BFT sticker on the back of the seat. Still though even though all I caught was a big stinky a** skunk, it was still a great day to be on the water. A 'toon trips sounds good 'course I might be bad luck. PM me and we'll set something up

Where's the mouth? End of the Provo river arm? I fished it Friday AM 6:30-12:30 with my father and we got 9 or 10. One large mouth on the road on the east side of the main arm. All the smallies on the west side grassy banks. My father got a 4 3/4 pounder but it was on a night crawler with a split shot! He got all but two (two on spinner bait) on that rig and I got a couple (one nice 16 incher) on a small pumpkin tube.

Great Craig, what did you get the smallies on? I only got two on plastics Friday and we only had about 10 by noon. Dad got all the rest on night crawler... fishing it like a plastic. Maybe it's the "where" not the "what?" We got almost all of them on the eastern shoreline.

We pretty much got them on alot of everything, from dropshotting grubs, to dragging grubs on a carolina rig to using senkos and top water. Bassrods and I have usually 3 rods rigged for all types and when they dont hit one, we try another. Fish were all caught everywhere on the lake, didn't matter where we tried, we would get 1 or 2 before we moved on.

Hey I'm new to this site, but it looks like a great place to get some info. About Jordanelle, I was camped there from Wed. June 22 to Sat. June 25 and the smallies were on fire. I had great succuess from boat and shore on spinnerbaits and plastic worms. Thursday was probably the best day with the hottest bite in the evening, from shore, following a long rainstorm, almost every cast. My brother inlaw hooked a 20+ incher (from boat) that was probably pushing 5.5-6 lbs. (and of course the camera and scale were left on the table at the campsite, but I did witness the monster). I was experimenting with dropshotting and spinnerbaits because I have not used them much, the dropshotting didn't yeild much (which tells me I was probably doing it wrong) but the spinnerbaits were working well. Most success was on plastic senko styles but I also tried some weightless Zoom trick worms with equal success. It seem like success was better with the clouds. I didn't catch any perch which was fine but last year I was hooking 3 perch for every 1 smallie or trout for that matter. Well the smallies were fat! Even the -12"s were stuffed and looked like footballs. Well good luck!

Welcom, Ika! Sounds like you've got Jordanelle figured out.
Me, on the other hand, as long as I don't fall in I consider it a succesful trip.

Since the subject came up, have you or anyone been finding the perch in large numbers up there like they used to be, after that fish kill in May?

Thanks for the post Ika! Great news! When you say "senko style" spinner baits, you mean the grub kind with a jig head and a spinner riding above it? As opposed to the Terminator titanium or other one piece solid bait?
