Fish Lake 6/24/05-6/26/05
#1
Hit Fish Lake again while at our family reunion there, and it was mostly the same old same old for me there this year: fish, fish, lots of fish, and really big ones up to 13." That's right, the big fish in the boat has been 13" and most of the fish have been 10" or smaller. Its pretty Sad when you catch 10" fish on 7" lures.

Anyway, the highlight/LOWLIGHT of the trip was hooking a huge mac! I was fishing the north end near joe's bush on an underwater hump and getting frustrated with the 8" trout and 5" perch when I felt another little tug on my line . . . another DANG minnow eating my bait I assumed, I set the hook and felt that wonderful THUD of sinking into something solid as a rock. As soon as the hook was set he was off on a run. Fifteen minutes later we had him at the side of the boat and he was somewhere in the 20# range. My dad, this being the biggest fish he's ever seen in person in his life was about to jump out of the boat with excitement. Just as he was about to net him he went for a run under the boat . . . I thought he was gone for sure, but I got my line walked around the boat and had him at the surface on the other side, my dad scooped the net down at him, he flipped to the side to dodge the net, and my jig popped up into the air. As he swam victoriously back down to the depths, my Dad and I sat silent. Would have been my biggest lifetime fish, but it was not to be. I've got to stop writing this post, its depressing.

Wow, awesome fish and your tale of the tail is good too! At least you guys were able to see the monster more than I can say about the lures that were snapped off at Willard. Were you trolling or jigging, did you use any chovies? I read where someone else recently hooked into a seagull up at Willard - on the West Dike no less, sound familiar?
Next time you guys will get that fish in only it will be 25 lbs!
