Well took the boat up to Mantua. For some reason it would not pump water again. It pumps just fine in the bucket at home. Mabey we got into some weeds or mabey some deposits are creating trouble for me in the motor.
Well back to the fishing report. MY KIDS HAD A BLAST. Between the 5 of us we caught possibly over 100 blugills and the two adults (me and brother inlaw) we caught a few bass. We decided to just stick with trying to keep the kids hook baited. We kept only 11 fish that were good size. Our rule was if we could not wrap our hand around the fish that was a good enough size to keep. A couple of the fish had lots of color with orange and yellow fins. These appeared to be much older gills, they just seemed older. We were using jigs, jigs with meal worms or powerbait maggots. We tried chartruse, white, black, green jigs they all seemed to work just fine. Get your boat up near those trees and there are some open areas that were great. The kids were able to see their bait and watch the fish take it. We used bobbers so that we could keep the bait up out of the weeds. That was my first time fishing up there and I don't think I have ever caught gills like that before. We will definatly be doing that again soon.
