Outboard motor repair in Utah county
#1
A few weeks ago, I posted a message asking if anyone knew of a good outboard motor mechanic in Utah county. I had an old (1978) Evinrude that needed some work. Several replies recommended local boat dealers with service departments, but when I called them they said they didn't work on such old motors. Apparently, they focus primarily on newer, in-warranty stuff. That must be where the money is. Nevertheless, they all recommended other, smaller shops and private individuals who worked on boat motors. After checking out three or four of them, I thought I would pass on the information about the best one I found. It's a guy who works as a mechanic for one of our local marine dealers during the day and then goes home and works on outboard motors in his driveway and yard in the evenings. His rates are reasonable, and he does good work. He quoted me a price of $40 for troubleshooting (vs. $90 at another local shop), was pleasant to work with, and did good work--fast too. In fact, I made an appointment for just a few days after I called him, and within 30 minutes of when he started looking my motor over he had it running and purring like a kitten. Because the fix was so simple for him (even though I couldn't figure it out myself), he charged me only $25. So, we seem to have an honest, expert, fast, pleasant outboard mechanic in the area. His name is Dave, and his phone number is 427-3984. If your outboard needs work, I would recommend that you give him a call.

Thanks for the info. I have a small outboard that needs some carb work. I think I'll give him a call. Where is he at in Utah County?

[red] Hi there SkinnyLynnie, Thanks for letting us in on your deal and for sharing your find of a Decent Honest Mechanic. I do most of my own motor work up here in Weber County, but it's good to know that there are still some out there.[/red]

He's in Provo, just a few blocks from the Center Street exit on I-15. When you call him, he will give you the address.
