Boating Industry Pitches In For Katrina Victims
#1
NEW ORLEANS, LA—The National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) and its members recently did their part to help search-and-rescue efforts along the Gulf Coast in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.
Nearly 100 recreational marine companies immediately offered to donate pontoon boats, inflatables, personal watercraft, generators, battery chargers, marine radios, and outboard motors and other essential items to authorities.

“The response from NMMA member companies shows the amazing generosity of the industry,” says NMMA vice president of government relations Monita Fontaine. “This is a terrible disaster, and I am proud to be part of an organization committed to helping the relief effort. Seeing so many companies immediately come forward to help is inspiring to us all.”

Although an increased federal presence in the area has at least temporarily eliminated the need for NNMA donations, they might become necessary again in the future, in which case NMMA will alert its member companies.

I have been catching as much about this disaster as I can on antena news stations.

I saw a number of different kinds of water crafts being used in resque efforts and patroling.

sounds like a good chance I saw one of these donated boats being used...
