Rockport lately?
#1
Has anyone been to Rockport Lately?

I want to head up this weekend and bring my two boys up. We're looking for some perch action and was wondering if the bite has picked up since our last trip and skunking.(see earlier post)

If anyone has been up hows the bite and where? What areas have been good? By the road or in the park? We are especially interested in reports from shore anglers or boats in close since we have no boat and can't get on the water until ice.

Thanks in advance for any info

Hey bigpapafish,

Yeah, Rockport rocks for perch ! I was up there last week and got into them big time again. Probably over 100 fish between 2 of us. Your best bet would be the Park side although there are a couple of productive spots on the road side as well. 2 weeks ago, the corner by the dam was pretty good - there's the remains of a submerged little grove of trees that usually holds good numbers of perch and it happens to be adjacent to some lovely out croppings of rocks for small bass - I would think they would still be there - and you can reach that from the shore.

In that same area, is an old submerged road bed that basically follows the shoreline and the trout love to follow along it - you can get them on the same offerings as the perch and bass in many cases. Or, you can use perch pattern count down cranks or fire tiger rooster tails - cast out about 10 - 30 feet from shore and depending on the water level, down between 8 - 15 foot deep -

Otherwise, there are a few places park side you can hit that will produce well. Look for what's left of the weed growth. However, the time is getting short for the perch action from the bank - with the colder temps they will be moving soon to the winter holding areas. Then - yahoo - it's ice fishing !

Good luck.
