Lower provo report
#1
fished from 5-6 on the lower provo. Caught and released 8 browns, ranging from 13-20 inches. i used rainbow sinking rapala like always, rapala is by far the best lure ever made in my opinion, i always out fish my friends with it, and catch bigger fish then them. rapala or die

David,

I have to agree with you as far as hard lures go, you can not beat a Rapo (Rapala). I have been using them for more years than I can remember. When I first started using them they were very hard to get, and they were just the floating ones, now they have many types and they are mass produced. One thing I have noticed in the last few years, most of them are coming with split rings. I have been tying them with the Rapala knot, so I take the split rings off and tie the Rapala knot. I have a little arthritis in my hands and it is getting a little harder to tie this knot, but I still get it done.

I found Rapalas by mistake--I found one once as a kid, lugged it around for years, and tied it on one day as a joke during some sloooow fishing. Fishing turned right around.

The problem is, I can either afford a mortgage, or a Rapala-stocked fishing box...but not both! Those things are 'spensive!

Is there some place where a fella' can pick these things up for less than the cost of dinner? (The ones I see are usually either side of five bucks). Hard to stock up on them when I can buy two other lures for less than one Rapala. Do I just need to suck it up?

Twolves- nice work with the browns. 'Tis the season.

Rapalas are great and I own about 100+ of them but Luckycrafts are my favorites and last year I lost about 10 of them . Ouch !!! This year I have only lost 2 so far .

hit the provo again tonight from 4-6:30. Man those lucky crafts are expensive, ill have to take a loan out to try those. Im going to definately make it out to cabelas to buy one, then fast for a week to make up the purchase. Well i just cant seem to go double digits on the provo, caught and released 9 browns 10"-17". bought a new rapala and would have thought i would have hooked more than i did, i probably had 15 missed strikes and 5 that got off. i was wondering why there is never any posts regarding the provo on here. i finally got the camera out to take pictures of my fish but when i went to get it out for the 17 incher the fish squirted out of my hands. anyways, "im not addicted to fishing i just do it every day".

[cool]Randy, I've heard about those lures before and that the "ghost minnow" pattern is a killer up on Strawberry. Is that one of your favorite colors/patterns as well? They cost a ton, but if they work as well as I've heard I'd consider having a couple in my arsenal. I think a couple is about all I could afford right now, lol.

I think all the colors work good . I like to fish them jerk bait style (walk the dog under water) near shore . They are good trolling too . I bought a Laser Rainbow trout Pointer78 SP , but still haven't broke the package open yet . I'll bet it will be killer at the Berry .
One thing I do at Strawberry is "walk the dog" on maniac sticks under water with good success too , and it is easier on the wallet .
