Ice auger question
#1
Just curious to what brand of oil eveyone uses for their ice auger. Is there a better brand for specific models which give better power and dont smoke? I have kept running my auger all summer long for a couple minutes every week i kept putting off adding stabilizer to it.

I think as long as you use a high quality oil you should be OK. I've never seen a difference in the amount of smoke different brands put out.

You should stabilize your fuel even if you run the motor a few times each month. The gas starts to destabilize after about 30 days regardless of conditions. I always put stabilizer in my small engine fuel can, cause a couple gallons will last the whole summer.

At work I use a lot of 2 cycle engines. I have found that most of the time if the engine is smoking, it is because too much oil is being used. Check your auger specs and you may be able to cut back on the oil.

2 stroke engines will always smoke a little, but if it is excessive then DKS is right you've probably got the wrong mix and you are going to shorten the time between carb cleanings. I also agree with always mixing in stabilizer with small engine gas, because of how long it takes to burn through a can of it. I use sea foam. The stuff is great and even cleans as it works. When I store something I pull the spark plug and put a couple of tablespoons right into the cylendar, pull the rope until the piston is at the top of the stroke and replace the spark plug.
