Braved the cold this morning about 6:30 with two friends at the Berry. Air temp at the turn to the visitors center was 8 degrees above, at the marina 16 degrees. Saw a few thin lines of ice along the shore in a few of the shallowest bays, was gone when we left around noon. Water temp is still up at 42.4 degrees on the main, one bay was down around 41. Last year on the 17th water temp was 38.1 on the main- so we are better than 4 degrees warmer this year. Enough stats, to the most important stuff. We boated a total of 46 fish, including six over the slot. Attached are pics of me with a 23" and a friend with a 26"+ that weighed around 6.25 lbs. Fishing was pretty steady all morning - no time being better than another, and both pointers and jigs working about equally well. I see this as the transition to the time period when fishing is better afternoon rather than morning - at least in the shallows. Only three or four boats an the whole lake - no wind, just a another beautiful day at the Berry.

Nice post and nice pics. Those are some nice cuts. You guys are very brave and nuts to fish in 8 degrees. What area did you find the fish and did you use white tube jigs? I want to get my kick boat up there tomorrow. Let me know what area you would recommend with a pontoon kick boat. Thanks

Very nice fish! Congrats on another good haul. Thanks for the update...looks like hard water is still some time off on the berry.

We did use white tubes and were on the southern end - I'd try around the Renegade ramp if on a tube, maybe directly north of the buildings there. I've caught a lot of fish there during this time of year. We caught most on jigs in around 15 foot deep water - don't forget the smelly jelly.
