fish snobs on this board
#1
I get a little bugged when I read a post and it says something like
"I hope the lurkers are not reading this, I don' want to see 500 people next weekend". Just because you chime in with your 2 cents every once in a while does not give you exclusive right to fish certain places. And like wise you should not be Angry when crowds of people show up on Saturday. I have a suggestion, if you want to protect your precious little honey hole of a fishing spot DON'T MAKE THE REPORT.

A majority of these "lurker" references are said to get the lurkers to come out of the closet and post on here.

So in this case, the comments succeeded. [Wink]

On the side note, welcome to BFT.

[cool][#0000ff]Welcome aboard. We don't take ourselves too seriously, so you shouldn't either. We have had lots of discussions about what is appropriate to post and what is not, if we truly wanna avoid "too much information". [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]The reference to lurkers is "Tongue in cheek". We know there are lots of "guests" who prefer to read the posts without becoming involved in the chatter. That is fine, and we do not try to discourage them. All are welcome. When they feel comfortable with the ambiance, they can join in at their own pace.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Don't know how long you have been "observing" our playroom, but we have had incidents in the past where members have posted details of a spot that could not withstand too much pressure, only to find it trashed and overharvested on their next visit. In some cases, people filling their coolers have admitted that they got their "inside info" by reading it on BFT. That has prompted us to suggest using discretion in our posting. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Of course, we realize that some bodies of water are going to get hammered, regardless of what we post. The first ponds with ice are going to draw a crowd no matter what shows up on BFT. But, if we wanna delude ourselves into thinking that we control the action, by referring to "lurkers", then don't get so testy. Just join in and have fun.[/#0000ff]

Welcome, welcome to our little group.
I always cringe when I see Doug Miller or Reese Stein report about fantastic fishing holes. I enjoy the info but think to myself, "There goes the neighborhood!" It happens when it's reported in the local newspapers or in magazines, too; it justs makes a larger impact with them than on this board.
I guess we sometimes get selfish, something like my friend who moved to Heber says, "Welcome to Heber. NOW GO HOME!!!"
I've made some new friends from this board while fishing elbow-to-elbow with them at some of their "honey holes" and we need to take it all in stride.

LipsRips, I couldn't agree more with you. I think DOUG MILLER has-(and this is MY opinion so if anyone wants to rip me a new one go ahead) destroyed more fishing in Utah then any single person could ever do. I do think -and this is the last time you'll hear me say it, reports to smaller waters, stillwaters or moving, can be detrimental to the fishery. Strawberry, Jordanelle, and other big ones can take the heat, not the small ones. Now off the soapbox. Sorry.
Welcome cfoodluvr

Evil Ash is the evil twin to Hero Ash in "Army Of Darkness. My all time favorite movies areThe Evil Dead, Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness. Ash is played by Bruce Campbell (Brisco County Jr.) Kind of a horror/comedy movie trilogy written by Sam Raimi who did the Spiderman movies. Funny stuff. If you like horror cult movies you have to check it out.

(BTW, Utah Dave looks a lot like Evil Ash too only with glasses.)
