History of jig making?

Can anyone tell me where i could find info on the history of jig making? im trying to to a speech for my college oral communications class....thanks in advanced.

you will have to do the reading and form your own summery,

jigging was primarily an ice fishing thing by nonindustrialised people with tied bones and twigs for hooks tiped with a peice of flesh or strip of leather and modern day industry and tooling has made it what it is today.

new modles and new designs are being developed every day. today there are more jig modles than there are days in a year.

I dont know how much history you want, most every company has their own history. You may want to also check antuqe lures and jigs.

I can tell you that the jigs of today did not realy come about till the mid 1800's at the turn of the industrial revolution.

I emagine the first modern jig came along when wire was first learned how to be drawn down. of corse a black smith could have posibly made one from nails.

todays jigs are a hook with a body of some type added to it. but the history of jigging for fish go back thousands of years....
