On this day

On this day I reflect with great pride upon my familys history .
I think of all the army issued black and white photos framed and standing on the mantle in grandparents small trailer .
My uncles ,all in uniform , all answered the call , all came home .
Not one ever talked about what they endured in the service but some hints of there travels have shone up after my grandparents passed on . There were postcards and photos from all over europe and the south seas ,newsclippings were of friends and family members who would be resting in Arlington ,Pearle , Normandy and lost in the Pacific .
Since before the revolutionary war family ancistors have given service to this country , today nephews , neices cousins and brothers in law carry on the tradition .
Yea, I'm proud .

same with my family, since before the revolution. My great grand father 5x was hung for terrorism by the english crown for the epesode of the boston tea party, he was given a choice of dieing alone in fornt of his wife and childred or hanging with his comrads and his family would not have to watch.

My grand father served in perl harbor at the time but he was out of port the night of the big party and was not caught during the bombing while still on manovers on one of the islands the following morning. he still died early in life due to cancer, but grandma is still around to re-tell the story every christmas and how she had no way of knowing for months after weather he was alive or not...

comunications was realy bad back then... on a good day it took weeks to get a letter mailed. when I was a kid it took two weeks to get a letter from florida to michigan... today by snail mail three days, by Email thee seconds... actualy faster than a phone call....
