Jordanelle 12-08...on soft water
#1
Hit Jordanelle this afternoon in the boat - fished the Provo arm for 3 hours and caught a few planter rainbows and no big browns. Can't tell you how much I miss October and November at the Berry. Anyway, air temp was around 6 when we left at 4:45, water temp still up around 41. No ice spotted except right by the Provo river. It extends out about 150 feet, though seemed fairly thin as the wake from my boat caused waves in the ice. I don't think even Fuzzy would have the brass to go out on that stuff. The water did look pretty cool with all the steam coming off it.

Thinking of going up there on Saturday, how were the boat ramps? We were up there on the 28th of November fishing for browns and did really well up the Provo arm. We boated 2 over 4#'s and one over 3#'s. I can't wait to get up there and use the boat one more time. Thought about ice fishing at scofield but the fish at the x are much more appealing to me. Thanks for the post I've been waiting for this. FISH ON!!!!!!!

Both ramps were plowed and open, I would recommend 4WD, though a careful 2WD could probably launch.

What techniques do you use for Browns on X?

We catch browns all season long trolling with rapalas and leaded line

Yep, same as starvinforbrowns, except I downrig with the lure 100' or more feet back, and autocycle the downrigger up and down 15-20 every minute. This gives the lure a vertical component to it's troll that often incites a vicious rap. I also will throw out a big pop gear occasionally with a nice minnow behind it. I know browns are notoriously cautious, but they can't seem to resist some big old blades with a nice juicy redside shiner dangling behind it - caught a 9 lber this early this spring with this method.
