Ice fishing cleats?
#1
The last two times out, the ice has been very slippery. I was wondering where is the best place to buy cleats? I called Sportsmans and their price is $27 for the type that goes on the big pac boots and $22 for standard boots. Anyone got a better place that I should try? HFT? Thanks. WH2

I think I bought some last year from Hooked, and they were only a few bucks. I've used them a couple of times and they work great.

I purchased the ones that Sportsman’s have. They have what looks like a spring that that crosses under the boot several times. They also had the cleats with the four spikes that strap on by the hill of the boot. HFT has these cleats also, I think they are less than $10.00. I have also seen some with spike on the sole through a rubber pad. I think I saw these at Smith and Edwards. HFT also had some with the sole made of aluminum with screws through the sole.

Sportsman’s has two types the cheaper pair is for walking, the other pair had a strap for running. I wanted full foot support so I didn’t have to worry how I stepped on the ice. I’ve used mine twice now and think they are worth every dime. They are very comfortable, I even forget that I’m wearing them. I’ve had to use them to run back to my pole before it gets pulled in to the hole. It was like I was fishing on a rubber mat. I had good traction for running and stopping.

Thanks for the info Paul and Matt and the suggestion Skip. I think I'll give James a call before I make my decision. WH2

I picked up two pair at Wal Mart for $4 each pair. Carp Punisher and I used them twice and they worked great. For $4 if you ruin them you can't feel too bad.

They were back by the fishing stuff. I think Cabelas also had a similar pair but I don't remember the price.
