This may seem like a really dumb question, but does anyone ever wear their waders ice fishing? I have some breathable waders and was thinking maybe they would be good to wear to the Berry tomorrow if it is snowing a bit. Maybe my feet would not stay as warm in my boots that I wear with my waders, but not sure. Thought I would ask all the experts what they thought.

I have read that it is dangerous to be wearing waders if one falls through the ice, because they will fill up with water.

yeah, your waders could fill up with water, but at the same time if you fall in, they might keep you from freezing to death (but that's just my opinion)

I have worn my waders many times while ice fishing. Makes it easy to get on and off of the ice if the edges are soft. They are also competely wind and water proof. Makes it nice when kneeling down in the slush. I have also fallen through the ice with them. It was back in the day and I had on Neoprene but if anything I would say they helped me float and stay warm. The one bad not is I notice my breathables wear more when walking long distances when they are cold and have ice on them.

WADERS A A MUST WHEN THE BERRY GETS SLUSHY. WADERS NEVER WILL FILL IF YOU PUT A BELT ON AROUND YOUR WAIST ON THE OUT SIDE OF THE WADERS.

I used to wear me Neopremes all the time, but I quit wearing them, preferring nice warm boots to keep my toes from freezing.

Just don't wear your felt soled boots on the ice-- good way to roll an ankle when the ice and snow builds up on the bottoms (you winter fly fishermen know what I'm talking about). I prefer to wear my snowboarding (Burton) pants on the ice with my snowboard boots. The pants have built in gaiters on the legs to keep the slush and snow out of the boots and both pants and boots are waterproof and designed for the cold. The boots also have good traction and the pants have ventilation zips on the legs for those warm days.
