SAND HOLLOW BASSIN IN A TUBE?
#1
[Smile] Well winter is coming to a close and it is time to get fishing again! I am thinking about making a trip down to Sand Hollow in the next month or two. I have never really fished for bass but would love to try. I have never been to Sand Hollow either. Could you fish this lake effectively out of a tube? What would be your best lure choices, I have tons of jerkbaits and crankbaits that I use for trout but would soft plastics be better? What is a good water temp to look for before heading down? [blush] Sorry for all the questions but I would really love to learn how to catch some largies instead of just trout all the time! PM me if you want your info kept secret. Thanks[Wink]
Hopefully I'll have a pontoon boat by the time I go!

I have fish S.h several time to the tune of 15 times or more. I have won and placed in several tourneys there. The way to go from a tube would be to go to the south end at the dunes, around the third picnic table and go straight out and find the point and fish from 2-30 feet. I would not wait 1-2 months, I would go as soon as the weather changes. You will catch between 50-80 bass in the 2-3 lb. range. use brown or green spider grubs Carolina riged with 3/8 ounce bullet weight. i have caught fish over five out of there and it is only going on 4 years that they made S.H.

I did a little searching on the internet and found some, Gary Yamamoto baits look pretty good, I assume they imitate crawdads, am I right.[blush] Maybe I'll go buy some and figure out how to rig them up! I can't wait to go try Sand Hollow out, as I have never caught a largemouth. Hopefully I'll get my turkey the first weekend so I can go fishing.[Smile]

i tube sand hollow nearly every weekend from april thru october. the best place i have found is around the back on the dirt road. take it till it ends, go out by the outhouse and go straight out from there. i usually am over abut 6 to 10 feet of water casting into shore with a senko either wacky or texas rigged. there are some 5lbers over there and a lot of 1 to 3lbers. dont wait too long though. early april it's on!!!!

That may be a spot I'll try 2nd week of April!! Can you camp there? Is it still "primative" or has it been upgraded? Would the St. "Gouge" tackle places be able to help me get some lures, etc.?

From what I can gather the whole area around the lake is tied up so you have to pay a day use or overnight camping fee. I just bought a bunch of stuff today in preparation for my trip down there, i can't wait![Smile]

I'm going to take my flyrod when I go, but as stated above I have never fished there so I don't know what flies would work.

Bunny flies, zonkers, and buggers should do ya well on a flyrod.

Found out the water temp is 50 degrees today, hopefully in the next couple of weeks it will hit the 60 mark, as soon as it does I'm gone![Smile] I'll have to get some flies tied up that will entice those bucket mouths.[Tongue]

Quail can be red hot this time of year, especially when they are on beds. ( a few weeks away). You will catch better quality but not the quanity. good luck
