ICE OFF
#1
Went for a drive out to Hyrum on Sunday and much to my surprise, the lake was totally free of ice! Does anyone know when this happened? I was expecting at least some ice still on the lake.

Is Mantua ice-free as well?

Finally got me a new reel...actually a combo set-up. Mitchell Avocet (8 bearings, yada yada), on a 6'6" Berkely Lightening Rod. Complete with 6 lb. test. All for $45. Not too bad.

Needless to say, I can't wait to try it out!

It was reported a week ago that the ice came off Hyrum. Mantua is starting to open up where the stream comes in and is making its way to the point the edges are pulling back also. But it still has over 75% rotten ice.

Mantua is almost ice free. The only ice left is along the northern portion of the lake. I would say it is about 75% open water.

ok, throw me a line here. I've fished the reservoir going into Logan after Sardine canyon to the right[crazy] Is that hyrum? I caught perch, bass, and some slimy thing.

Yes you got it right. When you get out of Sardine then turn right and drive for about 3 miles that would be Hyrum. Mantua is half way up Sardine Canyon.

What kind of fish are in Mantua, MGB? Is that "to the right" also? seeing how I'm off the subject, Where is Newton at the bottom of the Canyon? I need to start paying attention to names of lakes as well as times, water temps and color patterns.

Mantua has blue gill, perch,LMbass, I think smbass, cutthroat and rainbow, I think I named them all. Yes, it is to the right when you are north bound. Newton is to the north about 30-40 minutes further.
