Insulin Dependent Fishing Buddy
#1
My fishing buddy is almost as old as I am. He brings his insulin kit on all of our outings. He gets into the fishing so much when he's in his tube he sometimes forgets to do what's necessary to keep his levels correct. I have to make sure we go in for snack and a drink from time to time or carry granola bars or something in the tube. He doesn't check himself like he should. (I guess he gets tired of all that needle work!) The only time I've ever been concerned was on our last outing back in November. I caught a really nice trout just as Bob seemed to be dozing off in his tube. He perked up and came over to net it for me. I passed him my camera and it seemed to take him an awfully long time to get a shot. When we beached I checked the camera and there was no picture. I put two and two together and told him he better get something into him. Having done that he was fine.

You will have to be tuned into your grandson's needs but you should be able to enjoy many great trips together without worrying about his diabetes. As long as you are aware of his special requirements and observe him carefully while on the water you should have much enjoyment fishing with your grandson. Blessings on your relationship with grandson.
