Strawberry or Scofield snow/ice/slush conditions?
#1
There's not many reports coming from the ice caps lately since all the lower elevation lakes are ice free. Anyone know what the conditions are at Strawberry or Scofield? The last report from Strawberry was from Thursday I think and it still sounded pretty good. I call the marina tomorrow but was just wondering if anyone went this weekend and what the warmer temps are doing up there. Thanks!

Bigcat,

I was at Strawberry on Sat. The overall snow/slush/ice was still thick enough to almost reach the bottom handle of my hand auger. As expected, the snow is hardpacked in the mornings and the slush/snow monster would come out in the afternoons. If you have snowshoes I recommend bringing them. The ice seems to be holding up fairly well b/c it was in the same condition on Sat (04/08) as it was last time I was up there two weeks ago (03/27).
Fishing ihas been good in the mornings until 11-1 and then it slows day until later in the day.
Hope this helps!

Thanks for the update, glad you did well again and the ice is holding up. I need to get up there one more time before it all breaks loose!

I fished Scofield on Saturday 4/8. Ninteen degrees when I got on the ice at 6:00am. Ice goes all the way up to the bend in the auger. All but the bottom 8-10 inches is fairly soft ice/snow/slush. As the sun warms the ice, the top layer gets a little soft, but still manageable. Edges haven't even started to melt yet. 4-5 groups on the ice. Lots of sun. Great day.

Fished in water from 15-35 feet out from the little shacks. Most of the action was in the deeper water. Used boogers, and ice flies tipped with nightcrawlers. Caught lots (30+) dinks, and 8 nice sized bows. No cutts. All returned to swim another day.

Great day on the ice. Sure beat the non-reports coming in from the UT lake crowd.

Looks like Wyo next two or three weekends! Woo Hoo!
