Hey I was wondering if anyone one knows how to catch wipers from the shore for the less fortunate of us that doesnt have a boat yet? If anyone has an idea let me know.

[red][size 3]I've tried a few times over the past few years from shore and have only got one wiper a big small mouth, half a dozen catfish and snagged several karp. I have only tried the south and east sides. Luck to ya![/size][/red]

[cool][#0000ff]Lots of wipers caught from shore. Two things...location and timing. They move around and are usually far enough offshore that you can't reach them even with a good long cast. Heck, even boaters have trouble finding them a lot of times. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]There are some areas that they tend to come in closer more often. One is around the water outlet, over on the north dike. You can reach that area with a short hike from the parking area at the northeast corner of the lake. [/#0000ff] [#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]After that, you have to wait for the wipers to come close to shore chasing bait. During the warmer months, when wipers sometimes "boil", you need to go light and be prepared to run up and down the dikes watching for feeding activity close to shore. Then fire a jig, spoon or hardbait into the commotion.[/#0000ff] [#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]There are many other times when wipers are actively cruising, even into shallow water. Chucking out a minnow or crawler and letting it hang below a bobber or resting on the bottom will get the occasional "drop in". And, while you are waiting you can play with kitties and wallies.[/#0000ff] [#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]There are lots of spots around the entire lake that have seen temporary or sustained wiper action from shore. But, there is no place that is a "sure shot". You need to be prepared to fish them when you find them, and you often have to be lucky to have them show up at the same spot you do.[/#0000ff] [signature]

I've seen plenty of boils right at the mouth of the inlet at the south marina, easily accessible from shore.

I personally have seen alot of wipers caught off the dikes off of white with red spot trout jakes lures. I know it sounds crazy, but they seem to work well!!!

It is possible to catch wipers from shore. I have done it a number of times when I was after walleye around the first of april. I have watched them chase shad up against the dike around the south marina and out near the light tower. I know a couple of guys that have been catching them near the inlet this spring. If you decide to go give it a try don't forget to take your favorite brand of insect repellant in the jumbo size. gshorthair

North Dike, weighted bobber, and a white jig (smaller the better, thats all I can share for now). I have done this on numerous occasions and been pretty lucky with it. The key is to retrieve slow (just enough to keep tension on the line) and cast parallel to the dike.
This was shared to me by a friendly guy that fishes this way all the time and for many years. He said nothing about the jig other than white and the rest was up to me to figure out. I have many hours logged in at this area and still I am learning that it may be hit or miss at times but the cats on my second line make up for it. Just my two cents! [signature]

On one trip up there with my boat, we had trouble with it and got it out of the water. After putting the boat on the trailer all the guys wanted to stay and fish so we walked over from the parking lot (north marina) and put out worms. Within 2 hours we had caught so many we got bored, they were all small though. We just used the typical splitshot with a regular hook and a worm. We did fish from the boat that day (after we bailed the water out and put the freeze plug back in the engine to stop the leak), and all we caught were some small cats, the shore was better to us that day.
