What fish species are in Lost Creek?
#1
What fish species are in Lost Creek, East Canyon, Echo and Rockport Reservoirs?

If possible, I would like a complete list. What have you caught there? What fish are still in these reservoirs?

Thanks for the help.

Lost creek - Rainbows and cutts

Echo - carp, smallmouth bass, rainbow trout, brown trout, perch, and maybe a few other species. wait for more input on this one. If i'm not mistaken, there are catfish as well.

East canyon - Kokanee salmon, rainbows, and tiger trout were planted recently by the dwr,

Rockport - smallmouth bass, browns, rainbows, perch, and tiger trout were planted here recently by the dwr as well.

[cool][#0000ff]DWR has a page on their site about "partial list of Utah waters" that you can look up alphabetically. LINK TO PAGE[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]The only problem is that the info is old and does not reflect some of the more recent "introductions" For example, East Canyon lists three species of trout, but makes no mention of either smallmouth or black crappies...both of which are now common in East Canyon.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]If you have a copy of DeLorme's Utah Atlas and Gazetteer, there is also a section there which lists all the waters and the "recognized" fish species. I have also detected some oversights on that one.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]To the best of my knowledge (questionable), here is my list:[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]1. Lost Creek...Rainbow, cutts, kokes.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]2. East Canyon...Rainbow, cutt, brown, koke, crappie, smallie[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]3. Echo...Rainbow, brown, perch, channel cat[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]4,Rockport...Rainbow, brown, cutts, smallies and perch[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I hope others will have additional input.[/#0000ff]

Thanks to both. I'm making sure my site has the most up to date, and accurate info on Utah Lakes and fish species.

There are also browns in Lost Creek. As well as cats in both Rockport and Echo.

I thought there were only two species.

1. Trout
2. Trash fish

Just kidding. Everything that I have caught from Lost Creek were small rainbow planters. Echo I have caught Rainbows, Large Mouth Bass, and Perch. East Canyon teenage rainbows (they have zits).

To the best of my limited knowledge, there has never been kokanee in Lost Creek. There is some species of chub in there...I've caught them before and fed them to the seagulls. Some big browns in there as well. Aren't there some carp in Echo as well???

[cool][#0000ff]I think I had a brain makeover. I was thinking of Causey when I said kokes. But, by the time I thought of it, others were chipping in. [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]I found a long time ago that when you are perfect, it is a good idea to purposely make a mistake once in awhile just to let the peasants think they caught you at something.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I have not fished Echo for many years and only know the fish species by reports I have read. No first hand experience.[/#0000ff]

[#ff4040]I'll second that there is LMB in Echo. My uncle and I have caught some there. I used to catch black crappie there also, but I haven't been there for awhile so I'm not sure if there is still a good population of them there.[/#ff4040]

Well of all these mentioned the only one I have fished is Echo. I have caught some real nice smallies, perch, trout and carp. I have also seen some catfish floating dead on the shore.

I caught 2 chubs in east canyon last year. Both about 7" long.

Make sure that you check the regulations, in Echo it seems like last year a Large Mouth Bass has to be so large to keep it. This year it is a limit of 6 bass, but only one over 12".

[#ff4040]Don't worry IceRod, all fish were released to swim free so we could catch them again.[Smile][/#ff4040]

Kokes were once found in East Canyon but poor water quality (read: not enough oxygen deep when the water had stratified for the summer) and EC Creek being drained dry above the reservoir, the kokes all died out.

Do you know what Utah water bodies do hold Koko's. I would really like to catch one this year.

I would try strawberry or flaming gorge for the kokanee. Give the wedding ring lure a try trolled behind a boat tipped with a nightcrawler and you should get into some.

Also try Causey and Porcupine. Stateline reservoir has historically had them (and I believe they still do) but I have not fished it in years so can not say for certain.

How about from the shore? How do you catch KoKo's from the shore?

Also, are KoKo's good eating. I heard you only eat them during certain times of the year is that true?
