Trolling Motor Question
#1
Is 50 to 1 the right mix for trolling motors. I have a 35 horse and a 4 horse that use mixes gas.
What do you all use?

Even though many newer 2 stroke ouboards may be marked 100:1 it is kind of standard for most of them from the oldies to the newest of new to mix them 50:1.

50:1 for my 80's Evinrude. Just used it today and it ran great. Make sure to use Merc oil.

I agree, 50 to 1 is standard. I have seen some really old trolling motors that used a 32 to 1 mixture of 30 wt. motor oil.

Just going to throw you another idea since were on the topic.

Oil, especially cheap oil causes major pain and issue for two strokers regarding carbon build up.
Not a bad idea to get a aresol can of Seafoam from NAPA or other carbon remover from the OMC, Merc, or whatever dealer and work your motor over if it has never been done before. After that run the decarbonizer in your tank (every other tank full). Makes a huge difference on the way they run, keeping the carbon issue to a minimum.

First of all, welcome to the site. I totally agree with you on using SeaFoam, I use it on every tank of gas on my main motor and my kicker,Checker Auto also has it. What kind of two stroke oil do you use? I've been using Valvoline for the last two year and buying it by the gallon to save some money. Speaking of Seafoam, do you know where I can buy larger amounts than the normal 16 oz cans? WH2

I try to stick to the same oil (same carbon build up issue if you change around) and also buy in by the gallon or two. I go with the mid grade OMC oil. It runs about $25 per gallon but to me, I think it's worth it.
As far as the Seafoam Deep Creep decarbonizer, I've yet to find it in anything other than the 16oz. cans. Its nice that you can get it at NAPA or Checker and I'm sure some other local auto part dealers. It stabilizes the fuel, decarbonizes and lubes well. Good stuff for sure.

After posting a reply, I thought I would check out Seafoams web site, www.seafoam.com I also sent them an Email asking if they have any plans to sell a larger size of their product. Their reply came today and I found out they also sell it in a 55 gal drum, anyone what to go in half? [Wink] The good news is they started selling it in a gallon size this spring and although most stores that sell Seafoam don't have the larger size yet, they will soon. The person that replied to my Email said it would be best to talk to the store manager and ask for them to order the larger size if they haven't already. Just wanted to let you and anyone that is interested know. WH2
