BLM and a great example of Sportsmanship
#1
[#002850] Once I got back to work today, much of my non-work time was spent talking about the tournament. Five guys from where I work joined the competition and so the event was previously well advertised.

One of the guys," IGOTABITE" and his team mate "beenfishin" was trolling past BLM during the tournament out along the N-W dike. IGOTABITE and BLM shared their results so far for the day … IGOTABIT --- 0 and BLM --- 4. Just then one of BLM's lines started screaming line from the reel and BLM yeld out, "Make that 5!"

Before you know it, BLM was giving the IGOTABITE team tips and pointers on how to get a few wipers in the boat. BLM even tossed IGOTABITE one of his spare $25 planer boards and explained how to use it … yup, just loaned it to him to use!

There are several reasons why I relate this story (second hand). Firstly, not may guys would spill their tricks, tips, AND EQUIPMENT on tournament day when they are pretty certain that their technique is boating money fish!

Secondly, that was the first day IGOTABITE ever used planer boards. Now for those of you who have used boards before, know that it is normal to loose them until you get the hang of it. But loosing them in big choppy water is almost a certain loss … in this case, it would be a loss for BLM. But BLM still encouraged the other team to give it a try.

Thirdly, who's to say BLM would ever see this IGOTABITE guy ever again … or his planer board?

But one of the most important things about that event was going on in the background and probably went unnoticed by both gentlemen. And that was that a young boy, "theangler's" son, stood watching on and learning just how "the big boys" execute gentleman's sportsmanship.

Hats off to ya Rich … again.

I suspect that there are other stories out there about good sportsmanship that took place on tournament day. I, for one, would enjoy reading them if you wouldn't mind sharing them here.[/#002850]

I'll second those thoughts coot. BLM is a good guy and a great asset to all of us here on bft. Thanks for a great tournament Rich!

Ralph, thanks for letting us know. That does show a lot of class that Rich would do that for a fellow angler -- all while trying to win a tournament himself![Smile]

I agree with both bear claw and old coot. Rich is a sportsmen and a person of tremendous value to the people on this board. I have read through all the posts that dealt with the wiper tournament saturday and its tremendous success. It certainly was that. There are Lots of people that can't wait until next year. I wonder how many people would step up and take a turn running the tournament like Rich has. The event grew to a considerable size this year. People like Rich, Petty, and MGB put in alot of time before saturday. I don't know that it is fair for us to expect this group of people to continue to donate the number of hours that it takes to make the great day that we enjoyed saturday possible. What would happen if Rich had other plans next spring. Thoughts like that really make you appreciate what Rich has done for all of us. The people who organized and put on this tournament might need a break or at least lots of help if they decide to accept the challenge again next year. Thanks to everyone who was involved saturday it certainly was a tremendous success. Rich you certainly did a great job. gshorthair

Hello All,
Old_Coot well said, and your not kidding he is a heck of a Sportsman and not mention the day before pre-fishing he provided the hand off that gave my son his first "wiper".

I couldn't have fished with a better partner and know he represents the sportsmanship of the folks on this board.

I think worth mentioning also, is the gentleman I heard on the radio taking time out from his fishing to help a boat that was having trouble!

BRAVO GUYS!!!!
