Vernon Reservoir
#1
I was working in the area, so I stopped by Vernon Reservoir. Pretty little reservoir tucked just inside one of the oddest national forest areas I've seen...not too many trees.

At any rate, not too many people there. I ran up the canyon behind it--up Vernon Creek and Little Valley Creek. Little fishies in there. I talked to a guy who had caught a few. It's a tricky little creek with LOTS of growth on the banks. The good news, though, is that it's already running clear. Not much snow left there.

On my way out I fished near the dam for a couple of minutes and did manage a little rainbow. When the wind died down, they were smacking the surface like they meant it. I had to leave just after five, but I'm betting the fishing continued to improve after I went.

Good trip!

PS-- Does anyone have any more information about this little mountain range and this part of the Wasatch NF? I wandered around near Bennion Creek and up towards Dutch Peak, but nothing further west than that. Any info would be appreciated--PMs are great.

Thanks for posting your report Lurechucker, looks like a nice little Reservoir. Too bad the catching was so slow. I can't help you with any info on the area but I would think you might get some from the park ranger or the DWR in the area. WH2

[black]You are right, sometimes(in the off season) you have the place to yourself, but during the summer and on many weekends, the place(every spot is taken) is full of locals or other people(not neccessarily fishing) that go there every year and it can be kind of crazy. [/black]
[black][/black]
[black]In other words, choose your day carefully, or you won't get any fishing in at all because of the crowd on the bank and the traffic in the water. It's a real long drive to find out you picked the wrong day to go there.[/black]

Yeah, I can see that being the case for sure. Just the amount of wear on trails around the reservoir and size of the parking areas would lead me to believe that it sees its share of traffic.

It was actually much neater of an experience being past the reservoir up Little Valley Creek, Bennion Creek, etc. I can imagine that the area can buzz with OHVs sometimes, but in the grand scheme of things it looked to be the "road less travelled."

I pick my days carefully--typically I don't fish any reservoir on the weekends that you can drive to. I likey me the solitude.

Great little lake tucked away their is some nice sized browns in it also, the best fishing i have found is over by the dam. Just to give you a little heads up if it starts raining head for the main road the dirt out that way turns to grease.

if ya go back fish the west side about 100 yrd from damn. their is an under ground spring that bubles up over there. some browns are in there. best for browns is rooster tails in yellow. but corn power bait will fill up on the planter bows. fish it many times.
