#1
I am planning on stopping off at Fish Lake on my way back from Powell around the 20th of June.

Any tips on fishing this lake?

I guess you will have a boat? You can launch by the lodge or bowery Haven and I think Doctor creek. We launch at bowery Haven. We fish along the outside of the weed line which is on the same side of the lake as the lodge. The weed line basically goes from one end of the lake to the other in about 20' of water. Along the "line" you can catch perch, splake, rainbows and lake trout. We have trolled up splake and rainbows with pop gear and flat fish. If we want to target lake trout we go towards the other side of the lake until we get to 60' to 90' of depth. A fish finder is great to find the fish. We jig with 3/8 oz jig heads glow in the dark bodies tipped with perch meat. There have been severel post over the years about fish lake if you do a search. It is a beautiful place to camp with lots of places to fish besides fish lake. Lots of streams, some of which are very kid friendly. Hope you have a great trip!!

Fishing can be fantastic for perch on the edge of the weed beds. It should be possible to catch 50+ perch in a couple of hours. Nothing will be much over 10" though. Please keep all perch, as they were illegaly introduced and have over populated.

Thanks for the info! The information you gave me is more than what I could find in the Archives for the last two years. With the exception of the Pop-Gear. Fish Lake seems to be one of the very few places with pop-gear mentioned as a go-to rig.

Joyride: Not being a big fan of pop gear, I'm not sure about the "go to" rig, but last year we enjoyed good success with flatfish (best color was black and white) for the rainbows. If you launch at Bowery try across the lake and turn north (left) trolling on the east side until you get too shallow. At times this area can really hold some good fish. If you want perch, the weedline is quite evident and if you drift along it with any type of worm or grub you should catch all you want, but Fish Lake perch are small. Good Luck!

Where is the best/deepest launch? Since I'll be coming back from Powell I'll have my big boat. We're talking three foot draft and durn near 8,000 lb wet and loaded.

The launch on the south end is the shallowest of them all. I don't think you could launch there. The launch at the main lodge is better. If you troll you should be able to catch rainbow and splake with about 4 colors of lead core. If you go very fast you will need 5 to 6. I have used popgear and a flatfish in a f-7 size. I like the fire tiger pattern. You can also use the old dependable of the pop gear and a worm. If you get out on the water early You might be able to catch some by trolling with a spinning gear near the surface. It certainly is more fun and that dragging that big popgear. Some people anchor along the east side and bait fish or jig along the weed lines. hope you have a good trip. gshorthair
