just wondering if any of you guys have seen any minnows showing up around the docks yet. a year ago this weekend they were all over, but this spring has been kind of cold so i thought i would ask before heading up.

I think Schofield would be your best bet...seems like the minnow numbers are off a little at the berry. Of course you can't go wrong with a fishin' trip up there anyways.

At Scofield there are about a gazillion one inch minnows all along the shorelines right now. They would go right through my casting net and I could only get a few of decent size here and there.

[cool][#0000ff]Doesn't look like Strawberry is going to be a reliable source of minnows any more. I recently attended a session on Strawberry, given by a DWR officer. He said that recent netting surveys have shown that the cutts have pretty well cleaned out the redside shiners and that the chubs are on the run. They did not find any small chubs in their nets, indicating that the newly hatched young are being cleaned up before they can grow to spawning size. There are still some larger chubs, but virtually none in the good fishing minnow size.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Scofield and E-Lake are the best bets in that area. There are also the fathead minnows in Gunnison and Yuba. They are small and just the right size for a lot of minnow fishing. There are also small ponds and streams in Sanpete County with chubs, suckers and other minnows.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Soon there will be swarms of carp minnows in the shallows around Utah Lake. When they get about 3" long, you can load up on them and freeze them for year round use.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]There are also lots of minnows in the waters of the Bear River Bird Refuge. And, if you can get by with chub minnows, there are several small spring lakes out in the west desert that have lots of them for the taking.[/#0000ff]
