Shore fishing on Strawberry?
#1
Hi all, I'm new to this forum and I appreciate the great advice and passion that I see here. I'm glad there are people out there like me (my wife would cringe on hearing that).

Anyway, I'm going out tomorrow afternoon to Strawberry/Soldier Creek with a few people that have had bad fishing experiences...in fact, one has never been fishing at all (he's in his forties). I would like his first experience to be a great one so does anyone have a good spot from the shore? My usual spot is on the Soldier Creek side by the Marina, but I can't get there because of the high water right now...At that spot, we usually have a great time, catching as many at 20+ fish in a given morning. We will probably be using powerbait and worms.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks a million! Oh, yeah...what colors do they seem to be biting on? I usually use Chartruese PB.

Thanks,

Redman

I can't give you any good places as Friday was the first time I ever saw the Soldier Creek side of the lake. My wife and I hiked along narrows trail and several boats that had pulled into some of the side pockets to escape the wind. They were just fishing off the back of the boat and seemed to be catching most fish on rainbow powerbait.
Wednesday I fished over in Mud Creek with my wife for a couple of hours and she caught some on twist powerbait. I also caught a couple on a white Jakes lure with red spots. For what it's worth I hope it helps.

[cool]If you are looking for 'bows to take home in the cooler then I'd recommend you try the Soldier Creek side but over near the dam, but on the other side of that peninsela, not the dam side. You could also try over past there at or around the Aspen Grove marina or just past that. The common "bait chucker" baits you mentioned will do just fine, but you might also want to take some real meat with you (i.e. red side shiners, chub minnows) available in the freezer at your favorite local tackletorium.

Good luck, and DON'T FORGET TO POST your report.

[cool]Hey spyder, did you get your car fixed, or did you just trash it and get a new one? Hope that's going o.k. for ya, and that it didn't cost you too much. AFter I get settle into the new house we've gotta get a floatilla for kitties at Lincoln going again!

Like out4trout said I would suggest that penninsula, however I would fish the side that faces the damn. Also powerbait is great but color seems to be very important. YELLOW SPARKLE or CORN YELLOW. The last three weeks we have outfished everyone else in the area using these baits.

Also use black maribou jigs. There are a good mix of Cutts and bows in there. 2 weeks ago my wife landed a nice 22 inch cutt from that spot.

I went out and looked at my wife's powerbait and it was mostly yellow in the part she was using so I would go with the yellow. Small hooks with just enough to float it seemed to work better then big hooks.

The car is gone forever thank heaven. The motor really did blow up inside. Can't believe it made it as far as it did after everything broke. Borrowing a car and ready to hit the kitties. May go tomorrow but always looking for a excuse to go.

I second the small hooks. We have been using size 18 or 20 trebles. We fish with a weight on the bottom and hook them early. we have had no problems with hooking them deep. everything has been shallow. We have had some of the bigger cutts bend our hooks real bad.
