Fished Huntington and Electric Lake yesterday with Tincanfsh and his 5 1/2 year old son, and my 10 year old grandson. The plan at Huntington was to troll around until we found a concentration of fish and then we would anchor up and fish for them. The fish were mostly widely scattered. We did manage to land about 7 or 8 tiger trout (wow do they fight hard for their size) primarily from trolling. Billy paddled us all the way across the reservoir (by then the battery had run down) and we met Ocean and his family. After loading up the boat Ocean and his family headed for Electric Lake dam area and we headed for the boat ramp area at Electric Lake. Started fishing there at 2:30 PM. Fishing from the bank was really good at Electric Lake for small cutts and one rainbow, after we quit casting too far. Most fish were caught closer than 10 feet from shore -- with many being caught less than 5 feet from shore. We were catching them on whole crawlers and minnows under bobbers and Billy's son was catching them on PowerBait. Caught a few red-sided shiner minnows in my minnow trap (can't beat fresh DEAD OF COURSE minnows for bait) by throwing the trap out about 5 feet. Discovered just before I left that the large schools of minnows were out about 10 feet from shore. Kids had fun catching lots of fish, great company and marvelous weather -- doesn't get much better than that!

Were you fishing in your Porta-Bote? How did it perform for ya? It's something I've considered, as they are light, and easy to transport.
Is the boat ramp at E-lake usable?

[cool][#0000ff]Nice report. What seemed to be the best lures for trolling on Huntington? [/#0000ff]

Boat ramp is well under water and easy to launch. Also so is the dirt road that used to be there after the boat ramp!

Yes, we were fishing from my Porta-Bote. It worked great, except for the battery running down after awhile. I think the trolling motor could use a tune-up, which may make it run more efficiently. The reservoir is only about 10 feet from being totally full, so the boat ramp has plenty of water.

We couldn't find any particular lure that was hot on Huntington. We caught most of them on minnow imitating hard baits. I tried in vain to catch one on various spoons and couldn't buy a bite. I also tried a small Pop Gear trailed by a crawler without success.

[cool][#0000ff]Probably a bit early in the season for peak fishing there. I have Huntington on my dance card for next month. Late summer is usually a good time for the fly flingers too.[/#0000ff]

One thing for sure, all other local fish (with the exception of wipers and perhaps the bass) could take lessons in how to fight from those Huntington tiger trout. I was always amazed to see how small they were after such a hard fight reeling them in.

[cool][#0000ff]They definitely have the reputation for being tough fighters, whereever they are found. Most Utahns who have had the pleasure of meeting some of Huntington's tigers make that comment...that they fight bigger than they are. They are kinda purty too.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Hopefully the tigers will take off in some of the other lakes into which they have been introduced. They are great sport, good eating and they do a good job on the chubs.[/#0000ff]

Yep, the only downside I have with them is that they have to be the slimiest fish I have ever caught.

A week ago I saw several anglers fishing Cleveland, but I don't know how well that they were doing. It is totally full of water.

clevland has been slow for the last two years.. but should be getting better this year.. and with E-lake right there and huntington right around the bend.. how can ya go wrong up there? if you have a small boat or tube that will help a lot on huntington not so much on the other two..
good luck to ya..
P.S. dont forget the minnows or take a trap with ya.. best bait you can use on E-lake are them minnows!
