Saturday July 1st, Tincanfsh (Billy) and I are going Arctic Grayling fishing. We will be leaving the SLC area at 4:30 AM and will be fishing Round Lake, Sand Lake and Fish Lake (located above Oakley -- over the mountain from Smith and Morehouse Reservoir). It is approximately a 4 1/2 mile hike in and we will be hiking in and out the same day. I have never been there, but I am told that it is a moderately-difficult hike (others who have made the hike please feel free to add your input). I have room for two or three more in the Suburban if anyone wants to join us.

If anyone has not yet scratched the grayling off the list of species caught, i'd highly suggest going with kent to these lakes. The hike is moderately difficult, but the fishing is worth it. Make sure you have plenty of renegades and prince nymphs, and maybe even some small panther martins. There are LOTS of grayling to be caught up there, and some pretty cutthroats.

That accurately sums it up. The first part of the hike is easy (to warm you up), then it is fairly steep. Once up there, the fishing action makes it worth the hike. Grayling are one of my favorites to catch. They will hit almost any small dry fly and are scrappy fighters.

I was up there not too long ago, and the fishing was hit or miss for those little guys. When you hit, you hit good. But when you missed, it was snoozville.
Good luck!
