Registering toon
#1
I registered my toon last weekend and took it out. I painted the #s on it and stuck the stickers on it.

Even after cleaning one of the stickers came off. How do U guys deal with this even with the inflating/deflating?

[black][size 3]Hey Scholz,[/size][/black]
[black][size 3] [/size][/black]
[black][size 3]There are a couple of ways to deal with that. [/size][/black]
[black][size 3] [/size][/black]
[black][size 3]The method I use is to put the numbers and sticker on a separate mounting board made of a piece of semi-rigid plastic(I think the dimensions are about 1/8" X 4" X 24"). I then attach the plastic mounting board to the frame of my pontoon. That way, because the semi-rigid plastic mounting panel is only attached to the frame, inflating or deflating the pontoons has no effect on the numbers or sticker. [/size][/black]

[cool][#0000ff]Those numbers are tough to get to stick even on PVC covers. As you have been advised, it is better to mount them on detachable hard surface...wood, plastic or whatever. Then, if you are not using the motor and do not need to show your numbers you can leave them off.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Some guys use stout but flexible white plastic. You can also use strips of plastic baseboard material. And, if you still have trouble with the sticking, use some good waterproof epoxy.[/#0000ff]

Holy COW, you have to register your tube? Do you have to have a title for it? How about your flippers, do they have to be licensed too?

Sorry, I just HATE this sort of thing and went off. So far in Texas if you power it with human power you don’t have to register it…I’m sure that will change.

[cool]You'd better be quiet DanL. The Texas tax hounds may smell your suggestion of fresh red meat (new potential tax base) and sniff you out. We don't have any registration on non-motorized water craft here in Oregon either - yet. If it has a motor though, whether its a battleship or a rubber duck, you have to have the numbers on the side and pay the man for the privilege of driving your boat. Maybe the way to go with the numbers is to paint a big read and white set of shark teeth like Tubedude has on his SFC and then paint the numbers on the teeth. What do you think?

[cool][#0000ff]You do not have to register plain old float tubes in any state that I am aware of. But if you put an electric motor on any craft...tube, toon or bathtub...you need to register it in many states. That means that you usually have to carry the registration papers with you on the water and you have to have the clearly visible numbers on your craft for rangers and other officials to see.[/#0000ff]

Tube dude:
I've got a new 'toon on order. Do I need to register it, or only if I mount a motor on it?

I have a piece of 1/4" thick plexiglass that I painted about 4" x 22" and those quick clips attached with a strip of nylon strapping on my boat and on the plate, but I read somewhere about using a piece of vinyl siding and I love that idea. Light weight, flexible and strong.

Hey Flygoddess,

How's your guiding going these days? You must be pretty busy catching all those trophy trout 'cause we don't hear from you as much as we used to. Always appreciate your posts.

The State of Oregon is trying to pass a law here that will require drivers to put a GPS tracking unit on their cars so that the state can monitor your travels and tax you by the number of miles you drive. The only smart thing most bureaucrats seem to be able to do is think up new ways to gather taxes. If it works here it is probably "Coming to a state near you."

Hi Zonker,

Here in Kali-Forrrr-Ni-A it should be a two way street. GPS to monitor the freeway miles traveled for tax purposes BUT..... money credited to the driver when his freeway speed is under 55!

Hi Scholz,

I encountered this problem before. Liquid rubber enabled me to put my CA numbers on (among a number of other projects) but here in California I never have actually fully deflated my tube as we can fish year-round. Hasn't peeled yet ... but faded!

Sticker should easily go on one of the contraptions we make if there are no draconian regs on how the 'stickers' must be displayed.

The real problem would be to get the inquiring officer to stop laughing long enough to hear our entire story.

[Wink]Watch out JRon. They're just trying to suck you into the web. There are no lasting returns on taxes.

[#0000ff]That GPS thing is interesting. I am just getting my new GPS handheld (Lowrance iFinder H2O) set up for tubing. I hope they don't track me and charge me for exceeding the speed limits.[/#0000ff]

Just notised that all that came up was your quote Zonker.
Yep, I am heading up again probably Monday night for a Tuesday and Wednesday trip. Hate the drive but, it does give me a chance to scope out some great river fishing for the ol' man and my self, on the way up and down.
The people are great, but I don't get much fishing in while I am guiding. I prefer the customer to do the work or they might not enjoy the trophy as much. I will supply the flies, tying them on, and netting, plus take them to the spots I think will produce what they are after, then tell them how to go about it.
Here is some early morning fun. My glass 4wt with an 18" fatty on the other end. Just peeling line[shocked]

[cool]Nice bend in that glass rod, FG. Glad you're getting some fishing in. The few times I've been with a guide I always preferred to do my own casting, fishing, tying, and netting. Just put me on the fish and I'm fine. I'm sure you have those who need more help. Most of us probably don't initially think of guiding as the hard work it is. Dealing with the different personalities is probably the thoughest, eh?
