A friend and i are going to fishlake the 21 and 22 of this month and i just thought i would see if anyone has been having any sucess. If so were at? Also i am pretty new to ice fishing and i always see ratfinki posted on here as good bait to use, but when i go to get suplies i can never find any, so if anyone has a picture or a good explanation of what they look like i would appreciate it. I am really looking to catch a trophy fish while i am there, so if anyone knows what i could use to achieve this let me know. Thanks

ok chincheck i have been to fishlake several times this year and have hit a couple mack's..(not many though) and if you looking for trophy fish at fishlake dont even worry about the rat finkee's your not going to get any trophys on them up there.. what you need is a 1/4oz glow head with a white tube bait with a pice of perch on it..or a buzz bomb in the 1 1/2 oz to 3 oz size silver or glow tiped with perch as well.. and you have to find water that is 80' to 95' that is where thay are hanging at.. even then you will catch a lot more splake then mack's.. well good luck and i hope that helps..

They also talked about fishing deeper too. They had a picture of the lake record mack; 40+ lbs and said several over 30 are caught each year. Now that's my kind of fishing![/size][/font]

Sounds like a chance to get a few guys together and go fish and have a nice heated cabin to stay in. Anybody know what's available up there for food? Three things:

(2) what is a buzz bomb? can you provide a picture?
(3) We were up at Fish Lake last Saturday with the FuzzyFisher and although none of us got skunked fishing was relativley slow. there were 5 of us in my group (not counting Fuzzy and his group) and we fished from Dawn to Dusk and I think I caught the most and that was only 6. No Macks were caught by any in my group and only one Rainbow of any size. The rest were Splake averaging 14 to 16 inches. (Tomegun was with us as well and I am sure he would confirm the fishing being slow.)

[font "Comic Sans MS"][size 3]For me the action doesn't need to be hot and heavy. Just the chance at a fish you have to drill a triple holer to pull it thru is good enough incentive to sit there all day. One 20 -30 lb fish would make my trip heck 10 lbs get me going.[/size][/font]

We jig "Spinnows", a similar type lure, in Lake Mead for stripers but they are also really popular for salmon and other species as well. Like Fuzzy and BLM said they don't hold up for larger fish , but you could get some perch with them . Just wanted to show you what they look like . Never been to Fish Lake . I have 3 day weekends now but no money to go Darn !!!!!!!!! tight lines

When it comes to big Macks, I have seen (not caught by me, of course[laugh]) some up to 26" near the lava slides on the east side that took perch/sucker meat on a white glow in the dark 3" tube jig just off the bottom in 90-105 feet of water. However, I saw some even bigger caught early in the morning in the shallows on the south end by the weed beds at Doctor Creek. This was about 4 years ago. The young punks (of course [angelic]) were using spotted green and brown tube jigs with perch meat on them. They were leaving at about 11:00 AM and had been out since about 5:30AM. I never have been able to duplicate their technique, timing and success. Maybe next year![blush] My friend from work did well for splake, rainbows and perch in 15-50 ft. of water just out from the Fish Lake lodge near the Twin Creeks inlet earlier this month. She, yes, she said the fishing was quite fast all day.

I hope you didn't misunderstand me. I didn't mean to imply I/we didn't have a good time. I think we all enjoyed ourselves and certainly not sorry we went. It is however a long long drive from the Valley of Salt to the Lake of Fish. I was hoping for one of those 30 fish days, or at least a one ten pound fish. Neither happened.
One of the highlights of the day was watching a pair of Bald Eagles flying around the ice. (*After all it was Eagle Day).

Yep! fuzzy, that white tube jig is the one I watched you catch all those fish on, the only thing missing is the chuck of Perch. Thanks for the pict of the Buzz Bumb.

With these buzzbombers, how do you tie them on for ice fishing? Do you let them slide all the way down to the jig, or do you keep them somewhere above the jig with a swivel?
I will be heading to fishlake this weekend myself and would love to catch some good fish. This will be my first trip ice fishing this year. (Last year I had been out 5-6 times by now, aaarrrrggghhhh!)

The line goes through the center of the lure, then a rubber bumper, then the treble hook. That is how I have used them but there might be another way to rig them. WH2

Thanks! Yes, I actually understand how the buzz bomber is normally rigged with the treble hook. I am just wondering if you rig it differently for ice fishing with a weighted jig below it? Do you let it slide all the way down to the jig, or do you stop it somewhere above the jig? Thanks again for any input!!!

if you are going to run a buzz-bomb do not put a jig below it.. just run it with a treble hook.. if you want to run a jig with it put it above the buzz-bomb about 1 1/2' to 2' that way it will not interfear with the action of the buzz-bomb.. from the fuzzyfisher--------------fish on
