Pure genius, and I mean that! ![]() ![]() ![]() I had to go back and look at the pic again but hey, you're right! That is a lazy susan rod holder. I express my homage to the superior genius of our fearless leader as well. Great job. If it weren't so far to drive I'd go buy a new pontoon and take it to TD to trick. z~ [signature]

[cool][#0000ff]Aw, geeeeee. Tanks fer da compliments.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]I am kinda proud of that little design. I originally came up with it to hold rods while ice fishing. It translated well to tooning, where both space and location were tough to come by.[/#0000ff] [signature]

Nice looking ride.
I would like to get a look at your rod holders in front of the oars. Mine work pretty good, but I am always looking for improvements. Do the oars interfere with your rods at all? [signature]

[cool][#0000ff]I'll respond to that question, since I installed the thing and I don't think P4L took any closeup pics.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]I have been experimenting with several different designs on my float tube, using half inch PVC screwed down to a piece of wood inside the pocket (see pics). I used an adaptation of that, screwing the half inch PVC directly to the metal frame. If you drill carefully and bolt it together, it is a sturdy base. Then you glue the other connectors into place, choosing the angle of elevation you want.[/#0000ff] [#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]In the pics, I show both a vertical and an angled holder. That works on a tube, but not on a toon, when you need to row. It is there strictly to hold your rod upright while you rig or deal with fish...or to hold your rod out and at an angle while you are dragging bait. I call it a "baitrigger". You leave the bail open on your reel and put a loop of line under the rubber ring. When a fish takes off, it pulls the loop free and it can run line off the open bail until you close it and set the hook.[/#0000ff] [#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]I am in the process of doing a complete pictorial, including components, gluing, etc. If you need more info than the pics provide, let me know and I will put more up...or finish my writup and pictorial.[/#0000ff] [signature]

[inline toonpoleholder.JPG][#0000ff]Note that the base piece of 1/2" PVC is bolted to a vertical piece of the frame, but could have been bolted to the front horizontal piece as well. The keys to keeping the rod out of the way of the oars is height, length and forward positioning. Some frames do not allow for installing far enough forward.[/#0000ff]

Thanks.
That gives me some new ideas. I didn't understand before when you talked about putting the line under a rubber band. I like the way you mounted the rod holders on the poontoon. It looks very good. Looks like a trip to Home Depot for more supplies. [signature]

[cool][#0000ff]Just tell Home Depot that you know me. That should get a lot of laughs and entitle you to paying double price.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]I own stock in Home Depot. They just never give me any certificates and they don't send any dividend checks.[/#0000ff] [#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]By the way, if you ever want to bring your pontoon over to my garage, for a tricking out session, be glad to have you over.[/#0000ff] [signature]

I appreciate the offer.
I may have to figure out a time to do that. I am still working on setting up the fish finder like I want it. After this last trip, I have a better idea of where I want to install it. Then I want to figure out an anchor system. Every time I go fishing the wind is blowing and at times I would like to sit in a spot for sometime. [signature]

[cool][#0000ff]All toons are not created equal. There are really a lot of differences in the designs of the frames and the placement of pockets, straps, D-rings, etc.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff] [#0000ff]For most tooners it does take a few trips and a few experiments to find out just what works the best. But, it is good to know what the options are, and that is something I could probably help with. I have seen enough pics and worked on enough different models that I have gotten a little better at coming up with viable alternatives. Ultimately, you will have to decide what you like the best, and it may not be the most "efficient". But, as long as it works for you, that's what counts.[/#0000ff] [signature]
