went to JV for the weekend to field test some new jigg's i have been working on.. and to try some flatfish on the downriggers..
well saturday started out with us getteing to the lake around 1:00 in the afternoon.
just in time for the daily thunder storm and rain shower..
well we went to the north side to look for some bait (chub) and see if the fish were on the brake point.. on the way we seen lots of fish in the 25 to 35 zone.. so thats where we were going to start after we got bait.. we fished in 5 to 10 feet of water for about 45 min's with only catching 4 chubs.. ok now this was not good! in that time we should have a bickit full of chub. but 4 was plenty for bait..
as it turned out we should have just stayed on the fish in 25 to 30 feet out on the brake.. most of them turned out to be chub as well..
we jigged it up for about 2 or 3 hours there with only 4 splake and 3 cutt's to show for it..and about 20 chub.. so we headed down by the dam to see if there were any down in the deep rocks.. again not much going on there so went out on the rige topp's just out from the dam.. we were picking up some fish right on top the rige in 58 feet.. so jigged on them for about 2 hours we hit 3 splake and missed about 7 or 8 hitt's but still not doing as good as we should be doing.. it was getting late so and we wanted to give night fishing a try and see if that was what the fish wanted.. no luck there ether.. as the sun went down we did pick up 3 splake, but as soon as the moon went down and it went pitch black the fish just turned off.. even the chub stoped bitting.. we tryed tell around 11:00 that night not'a.
so back at it the next mornning we went back over to the brake on the north side.. did not take long before we were slaming the splake and cutt's for the next 3 or 4 hours we just slamed the fish on jigg's tipped with chub.. we did get some nice slot limit splake and cutt's that morrning.. but after about 11:30 it slowed down a lot.. so we went to the riggers to try some trolling with flatfish.. as it started out i hit one right off the bat on a zipfish in white.. then nota for the next hour or so.. we ended up with only 3 fish on the troll.. around 1:00 went to shoure to cook some lunch.. thats when the daily thunder storms started up.. and was getting bad fast.. ok i said to my buddy time to go..
that when the wind started to get realy bad.. it was fun trying to get the boat loaded on the traler with 3 feet waves pushing it side ways on us.. we got it tho but got realy wet to do it..
