Just Some Tubing Pics
#1
Went out again today to the put n take lake. Matt and I caught about 20 rubber trout between us. Kept 10 for a fish fry tomorrow. Since you know I like pics, here are a few random tubing shots.

and in case you were curious, that butterfly is an "Angle-wing". It is related to the Tortoise-shell.

(My dad taught me butterflies as a kid, he is a biology teacher and avid Lepidoptera Society member, with a huge butterfly collection).

Nice pics Zonker. Love seeing kids out doors instead of being indoor XBox zombies.
Looks to me too that you and TD are champion fish cooks!

Cat_man,

Thanks for the identification. Those butterflies were all over. I must have hit a hundred of them with the truck as I was driving up the west side of the Cascades. They were all over the road. Then when we got to the boat ramp there were hundreds of them flying and landing on the warm rocks. I surfed around the Internet trying to ID the critters but quickly found what you no doubt know. There are zillions of butterflies! I was curious about their sudden heavy concentration. Someone else told me that they were probably migratory. On the other board several flyfishers had noticed them in the general area also so if it is a migration it must be a huge one.

They do migrate north throughout the year, and some probably go back south too.

However, most of them are born and die the same summer. There are usually a couple (2 or 3) generations in a year, and the last generation (late summer) overwinter hiding under rocks and logs, and emerge in the spring to lay eggs for the next generation.

That's really cool that they can last through the winter. You'd think they would starve to death - or freeze - suffocate in the snow. Probably many do, huh?

[cool]I think I prefer my warm gas furnace - and I don't have to wait until spring to emerge.

Lots of nice "side interests" in our sport.

Absolutely. They actually go into some form of hibernation.

FG,

Set up a little Coleman stove outdoors and cook 'em there. I do that sometimes so I don't stink up the house. The only one I have to worry about then is the cat and he loves it.

Those fish were yummy but I didn't have any tartar sauce. I won't make that mistake again.

Tube Dude is the chef around here. I just roll them in flour or corn meal and fry them in a quarter inch of Canola oil.

Yes, it's a cast iron pan. I like using it. Those trout were good.

Can't beat cast iron Z. It's something I learned about bush cooking in South Africa. A cast iron skillet and a Dutch oven and you have an outdoor kitchen - stove, oven and all!

Noticed the pan and it makes the best foods! When I have to cook the first thing I would get out is the cast irons![Smile]

care to tell us a little story (or a long one) about the bush cooking's and life around there? Maybe you had post that somewhere that I missed, sorry if I'm asking again?
