A friend emailed that same picture to me a while back, so I posted it on the Minnesota board (where Rainy Lake is) and askid if anyone knew the whole story. The reply I got from the Minnesota board moderator was:

"I really don't know, but I have read in other forums that the fish was actually caught in northern Europe. I live a hour from rainy and I never heard about this fish until I saw it online. Either way that is one hog of a fish. "

It sure is a beast.

I sent a reply to the guy that I got the picture from, he hasn't replied yet, the picture did not come with any other info. The last I talked to him, he was headed for BC on vacation, so that is where I assumed the picture came from, I guess I was wrong, thanks for giving us the real scoop.
