Just got back from the beautiful and very green Kodiak Island in Alaska. What a great place. Bears and fish! What more could you ask for. I took a friend of mine who has lukemia and two other friends for a week in Kodiak. We had a great time and all I can say is I want to go back. We caught many silvers like the one below. They are bigger here than anyplace I have been in Alaska. Many were over 15 pounds.

We would go out in the charter boats and catch silvers and kings all day long. What an amazing place with puffins and whales all around you. I caught one of the rare "white king salmon" thus making my handle of "chinook" even more appropriate. The flesh of a white salmon is pure white and they say is even better than other kings. We also fished the rivers where there were thousands of pink salmon to catch on flies and many harder to catch silvers. Here I am holding a large silver caught on a pink fly that I tied before the trip. What a rush when the fish tears out 100 feet of line.

We caught our limits of halibut on several days and my buddy that is sick caught the biggest one at 105 lbs. We caught many halibut in the 40 and 50 pound range.

Even though it rained alot, we had a great time fishing on the ocean and fly fishing the rivers. Our only regret is that we did not see a Kodiak Grizzley. Maybe next time. You all should get away and experience the wonders of Alaska. For my frined Larry, it was his first time and he will never forget it. I pray that it won't be his last. Life is too short to sit around on the couch. Get out and fish.
