Comins lake nevada
#1
Went to Comins Lake by Ely Nevada for Labor Day (actually just saturday) and didnt do too well. After fixing pontoon boat problems, first 2 casts resulted in 18" rainbow and 20" pike from the same hole. Pike was my primary target, another guy told me to go to a certain area where he saw one bigger than 45". Used Rapala J-11 in rainbow trout color. Lots of casts with no other success. Just happy to be fishing. Later on we hit a little creek and caught dozens of little cuts and rainbows. That was awesome because it requires different strategies with all of the hazards in your way. Saw herds of elk with no bowhunters around. They were bugleing everywhere and even got within 100 yards and next thing you know antlers locked and dust flew. Awesome weekend.

[cool][#0000ff]Sounds like a great weekend, with lots of sights and good action. That area around Ely has some surprising potential, both for fishing and hunting. We have a few BFTers in the Salt Lake area who lived in those areas and tell some good tales of past fun times.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]I guess there are a couple of lakes in the area that have kicked out some big pike over the years.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]I'm from Idaho originally, and I remember some of those elk rut spectacles. There is something about a big bull elk bugling close by that just makes the hair stand up. Glad you got to experience it.[/#0000ff]
