I'm going to Strawberry on the 6,7 & 8 th of October. I have a boat and a Crawfish trap a friend gave me and he will be at the lake camping with me, so I was hoping to get a pot full of the the big ones. Last year we went into a cove in the narrows and we used bacon in the trap and we caught a bucket of small ones. we cooked them up and they where great but too much work.
Two weeks ago I stopped at the ladders on my way back from Roosevelt and in the parking lot at the waters edge, there was ten or so of the biggest crawfish heads I had ever seen.
The back of the head where the tail was looked to be about the size of a fifty cent piece or bigger.
LOOKING FOR MISTER BIG TAIL
PS - My trap is the round one with the holes in the ends

Hey Tapper,
In years past we have caught some big ones along the rocky east shore of the meadows. We launched at Renegade and headed towards the narrows. We used a chicken leg tied to twine and pulled them in. Crawdads like rocks to hide around and that east shore of the meadows seems to be ideal.

Tapper,
I have never fished this late in the year for crawdads...And never will again. Between 4 adults and 6 kids we netted about 3/4 of a 5 gal bucket in 2.5 hours. Earlier in the summer you could get that many in a half hour. There were no crayfish on the concrete launch at all. The ones we harvested were all in the rocks. On a positive note, they were all huge.
Good luck on your outing,
Slayer
