We arrived at about 7:30, ambient temperature a crisp 31 degrees (careful on the frosty dock!) We started out fishing around the island south of the Marina with one or two hits but no hook-ups. We proceeded along the west shoreline all the way to the dam. Again, a couple of hits. My dad caught his first of the day on a black and yellow Jake's Spin-a-lure, a 10" rainbow. Things were pretty slow most of the morning, we then decided to troll from the dam up the Rock Creek Arm. We used a Pointer 78 and a Rapala Floating Minnow size 7. Had just as much success with the Rap as the Pointer. I switched to a little larger Rapala (not sure of the size, maybe 4 1/2 or 5 inches (which ever is the first size to have 3 hooks) anyway, that one was the ticket for trolling. While trolling we caught in the neighborhood of 12 fish, all about the same size, the biggest was probably 13 or 14 inches, but most were 10-12. Decided to target bass, threw allllllllll kinds of lures--spinner baits, crankbaits, rattle traps, deep divers, shallow divers, drop shotted senkos, tubes, grubs, etc. even topwater and got nothing in the way of bass. My dad started using a silver pattern Rapala DT 6 and caught several rainbows, a brown trout, and one 8-9 inch smallie--that was definitly the multi-species winner for the day. Did hook up with one on pop gear and a worm but opted to long-line release it. We did see others having success with pop gear. All told, we caught around 18 fish, all rainbows except for the one smallie and the one brown. It was a beautiful day--and remember, even if it is cold, you can still get sunburned--so if your dad asks you at 10am, "Do you think we should put on sunscreen?" the answer should be, "Yes" and not, "No, I don't think we will get burned. Don't believe me? Come feel the back of my neck--you could cook an egg on it. Anyway, all in all a good day--was hoping to catch something other than trout, but can't really complain. (All fish were release for your catching pleasure).[
