Syracuse Pond
#1
I fished Syracuse pond a little this Thanksgiving weekend. I caught nine rainbows (10-13 inches) using worms about 3 ft. below a bobber. I also caught 3 splake (11-16 inches) using a rainbow colored spinner from the North side of the small pond. Has anybody else had any luck out in Syracuse? I have had virtually no luck with power bait, but some people are swearing by it.

We've fished it. (sons-in-law & grandson & I) What you thought were splake were probably the tiger trout they stocked about a month ago. There are still quite a few in there. Fly & bubble combos are still working well when the winds are light. Otherwise, we've done our best with small spinners and Kastmasters.
Too bad they won't be allowing any ice fishing.
The new Jensen Nature Park is located on Bluff Road in Syracuse.

Thanks for the input. I am not an expert on these hybrids, but everybody I talked to said they were splake, so I just went with it.

It's on Bluff Road. If you know where the RC Willey is than it's real easy to find. Bluff Road is behind (south) of RC Willey. Take it east for less than 1/2 mile. You can't miss it.

[#002850]Coach,

That pond is the "Jensen Nature Park" located at 3208 South Bluff Road, Syraacuse, UT.

I was down there one day and watched them plant a BUNCH of fish from three planter trucks. That day I thought they were planting catfish ... but I could be wrong. I just know that there are a bunch fish in that pond.[/#002850]

It's only about a 7 or 8 acre lake and I have never seen a boat or even a float tube on it. I have been told they are not allowed, but I don't know for sure. The fish surface throughout the day so you may want to try a flyrod if you are handy with one. The fish I have caught have been pretty good fighters (I let them go to fight another day) so I think you'll enjoy it even from shore. They can be a little picky at times. I caught nine one day and only one the next.

Yeah I am a rookie so I have been going out to Syracuse Pond lately. I like it because it is right down the street from my house. I saw on some Utah page that it is stocked with catfish also and my friends have been catching these. I have been catching Fish on and off using Chartruse Powerbait and worms. I am a true rookie so I went with what a friend told me and I do alright. Haven't kept any yet though. Oh and I have seen the guys with the flyrods consistently pulling in little bluegills.
