Problems with my fish finder
#1
I have an Eagle Fishmark 320 and it works great for ice fishing when I'm fishing in about 10 to 15 feet of water. When I get deeper than that it dosen't read stuff on the bottom very well. Why would that be and what do I need to do to fix it? I think it could be battery related but I'm not sure. If any one has one of these fish finders and could offer some help I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

You know, I had the exact same problem a few years ago with my Eagle Supra-Pro ID!!! I wound up buying a Vexilar.
But I didn't give up on the Eagle. What I did do was modify the transducer mounting system. I had made a right-angle rod and welded a piece to it for transducer mount. But it only went about 8" down into the hole, and was held there by the portable unit itself. So now I made a "T" hanger from PVC, independent of the unit, and I have it down about 14" now. But I also have 2 pipe sections that I can add if needed to lower it even further, using collars as linking devices. This gets it below the ice hole's column, and it certainly reads better for me.
It still doesn't pick up the bottom well if I'm shooting deeper than 50 feet, but I rarely ice fish that deep. And now I only use it as a back-up, or if someone goes with me who has no finder.
The bottom was always a little bit of a "grey area" on that finder; like 6 inches that didn't show before hitting bottom. But it does show fish much, much better now.
Maybe something like that will work for you, too.
Good luck!

I already have mine mounted so that I can get it down below the bottom of the ice hole but maybe I don't have it at a perfect right angle. Thanks for the tip I'll see if it works. Any more tips would be welcome.

[black]It's your transducer. If the cabling coming off your transducer gets damaged, and you can't see wire damage all the time, or the transducer is faulty, you will lose a lot of detail while the sonar appears to be working. If you know someone with a lowrance/Eagle transducer that has the same plug as yours, try it before doing anything. I'll bet a dollar to a donut, it will work great. Beats buying a new sonar or flasher.[/black]

Good point, BLM. And I've cleaned mine too, with mild dishwashing soap on occassion and that also helps. Liquid stink, if you use it, tends to get the water in the hole looking like an oil slick. And it sticks to anything in there.

Thank you BearLakeMack. I will see if I can find someone else that has one so I can try that.

Your unit has 3 screens. one that shows everything and then there is a 2x and a 4x screen that will only show part of the water column.
Try using the 2x screen and then arrow up or down to show the bottom.
Now adjust your gain up untill you start to get clutter on the screen.
Now adjust your grey line down to about 20%.
This will give you the best picture in water from 20' to 40' deep.
You may also go to the 4x screen if you are doing most fishing on the bottom.
At 25 to 40' of water, I run about 90% on my gain. [sensitivity]
Be sure that your transducer is at a flat 90* angle. You may also want to turn the transducer around and away from facing you.
Last if you are fishing close to other finders, you will get interference from them. You may have to move away from the other unit in order to keep your gain up high enough.

Maybe someone can help me with my problem. I have a Zercom that works well for the first hour or two in the early morning. About when the sun is fully up, ( maybe it's just the amount of time its on) the dounut screen starts zapping all over the place. This sounds crazy, but I can control it for a little while by moving around, (me, not the machine) My fishing buddy thought I was nuts when he say me lifting my arms and legs up. He asked me what I was doing. When I told him he didn't believe it until he came over and watched. After a few minutes that won't even work. I have traded out the battery several times thinking maybe that was the problem, but it didn't solve it. ?????? I'm to the point of thinking a vexilar is the solution to the problem.

[cool]I have one of those finders too, but whenever it looks to me like I'm not seeing enough I turn the sensativity off of the factory pre-set and adjust that baby WAY up, and that usually helps out a lot. Also, I like the zoom factor on there and I usually don't ice fish the first 5-10 feet below the ice anyway, so I'm almost always on at least 2X zoom or even 4X zoom. Good luck...
