Otter Creek 12/24
#1
We planned to fish Piute on Christmas eve but we received a hot tip that the bite was on at Otter Creek so we went there instead. We arrived around 9:00 and set up at a spot that appeared to have seen a lot of recent fishing activity. It was the first time out this year and I soon found how dull the auger blades were[mad]. After finally getting a couple of holes drilled we stared fishing jigs under castmasters just off the bottom. I don't have a sonar unit but I would guess we were in 20' of water. We started getting in to the fish almost immedialty. They were all nice fat rainbows about 15" to 17". My son did ice one 20" cutt. We fished until about 1:00 and caught 12 fish. I'm sure we could have caught more but I was pretty busy playing "guide" for the wife and son and didn't fish all that much.

I had hoped to report on my new Ice Cube shelter I got for Christmas but it was too nice a day and I was too busy fishing to put it up.

Fish ON!

Hey UtahBill,

I concur with your report. I spoke with a fella that I work with. He had originally planned to fish up at Fontanelle. But instead he went down to Otter Creek over the weekend. He ended up catching 59 trout in two days. Of course he did not harvest more than his legal limit. He could've caught more. But he ran out of meal worms to tip his jigs. He reported trout mostly in the 14-18 inch range.

Nice post Utahbill... I have never fished otter creek before< but it sounds like it should be pretty hot. i will have to make some time this week to get over there.. Do you know if its thick enough to get an atv on?

Ice was 8" to 10" thick and I saw a couple of ATV's on the ice.

You got to love those Otter Creek rainbows. I have many fond memories of hooking into those 4 to 6 pound rainbows as a kid growing up.
