The cisco spawning run should be getting underway any day now, but as of Sunday, January 14, 2007 no cisco have been observed off of Cisco Beach. Biologists have been checking for cisco daily and updating the status of run on line as well as providing information on water/ice conditions. This information can be accessed by going to: www.wildlife.utah.gov/hotspots/detailed.php?id=1 They are also updating the Bear Lake office answering machine with a daily cisco report. Please only call AFTER 4:00pm Monday-Friday or anytime on Saturdays and Sundays. The phone number is 435-946-8501. With the frigid temperatures the last two nights, the Bear Lake State Park marina has frozen as well as a couple of hundred yards of the lake along the west side. In addition, the area along First Point is ice covered and launching boats is not possible at this location. The only boat ramp available for launching at this time is at Cisco Beach. If you do venture out in a boat be careful of floating ice. The best bet for fishing right now would be using Castmasters for jigging for cisco. Cutthroat have been caught at depths of 25-60 feet of water and cisco are coming from depths of 35 feet but access via a boat may be difficult or impossible at this time. The lake level is at 5910.56 feet. The lake has risen approximately seven inches since October and continues to rise. The lake is entirely open water at this time. Boats can only be launched at the Cisco Beach boat ramp. The marina has de-icers running but is frozen at this time. There is approximately 6” of snow on the ground at this time and night time temperatures have been well below zero.
