Third Annual Outdoor Channel Offshore Classic Sailfish Tournament Rounds em up!

Islamorada, Florida Keys - The final day of fishing during the annual Outdoor Channel Offshore Classic produced some excellent sailfish action. All combined for the two days of fishing there were 113 hook-ups and 81 releases of Sailfish. Participating in the event this year was 21 tournament boats and 80 anglers, 7 of these teams were disabled veterans, who were being sponsored by the Paralyzed Veterans of America.

The first day of fishing during the third annual Outdoor Channel Offshore Classic produced 42 hook-ups, and 32 releases along the calm waters off Islamorada, Florida. The second and final day of fishing produced 71 hook-ups, and 49 releases under sunny skies and variable windy conditions.

Coming into day two in the lead was top angler Matt Grynewicz from Key Largo, with 3 releases. On day one his team released 5 sails while fishing aboard "Weez in the Keys", with Captain David Morris, at the helm. During day two they stayed ahead of the rest of the fleet by releasing an additional 5 sails, making their two day total 10 releases and securing the first place position of the tournament. Matt Grynewicz was beat as top angler by his team mate Scott Robins of Miami Beach with 5 releases for the two days. Taylor Walsh caught 2 fish with Justin Baker of Islamorada Florida making up the rest of the team

The fishing vessel Class Action took second place by releasing 7 Sailfish, with Capt Sam Milazzo and his anglers Steve Michels from Oregon, Carl Flemons from Alabama, Jim Sifers of Waco TX. Two of the gentlemen on board this boat are disabled veterans, Carl in a wheelchair from a spinal injury, and Jim Sifers, each were out fishing for sailfish for the very first time in their lives. This effort was truly exceptional to beat 19 other experienced teams in the event.

Third place was won by the Kalex, with experienced local Islamorada Captain Alex Adler at the helm, and Austin, Texas Anglers Randy Russell, Butch English, Ben Maki, Tommy Tormohlen also with 7 released Sailfish.

From the tournaments beginning 3 years ago teams fishing the Outdoor Channel Offshore Championship have used non offset circle hooks on all live and dead bait. This is now a Federal regulation. Thirty-pound or lighter test line was required and all anglers were required to adhere to International Game Fish Association (IGFA) rules.

The winning team on the "Weez in the Keys" also won an invitation to enter the IGFA Offshore World Championship 2008, held each year in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. They will represent the Outdoor Channel Offshore Classic for this prestigious event against some of the top anglers in the world.

The twenty one local charter boats from Florida placed in the following order with the anglers who released fish:
