I have a question for you: is the ice safe for a 4-wheeler in the Rock Cliffs (inlet end) area?

you've ask about wheelers on rock cliff and ice thickness, I was up on monday and ther was and open water area about fifty yards east of the ramp in the middle that was about fifty feet wide and about 150 ft long, every thing west of the ramp and south was 10-12 inches of hard clear ice. I fished the heck out of the south side clear past the bouys, the water is down a bunch but there was and had been lots of machines on the ice. Be way carefull going east, don't know what caused the open water, but it was still dark when we headed out and didn't notice the open water until we came back.Fishin was slow and not many marks on the finder.
for what its worth . Horse

I think there is still ice underneath the open water near the parking lot. It looks like water came up out of a crack and soaked the area as it is kind of slushy just near the unfrozen water. You will be fine taking wheelers or smowmobiles on the lake. The ice way out past the bouys is still about 10 inches thick

There is a report of a 4 wheeler breaking thru at Rock Cliffs on the DWR site. Sounds like the current from the river has thinned the ice. If I was machining it I would head up lake from the launch right away. Stay away from the inlet area and assume that the warm water plume can extend far beyond the open water.

We should all still be carrying 100' of good strong rope and a pfd. A throwable cushion is good.

I was up there yesterday, it is a little tricky on the Rock Cliff arm. There is open water just off the boat ramp. I think they have let water out of the dam and the ice broke or sunk right there. It is kind of a mess. A group of boy scouts was headed to the ice just ahead of us. Three of them broke through. They only had wet boots so they didn't go into the water very far, but they were all pretty shook up. We decided to try to get on. There is a well worn path that is safe...but you can see where one wheel of a wheeler went through right next to the path and several places where something or someone had broken through. There were several wheelers and snow machines on the arm and did alright. I guess they were just careful getting on and off. If you do go to Rock Cliff be very careful.

We fished for about 4 hrs and did very poorly. Graphed very few fish. I didn't see any one catch a fish, and we only managed two 12 inch trout. Jordanelle has been too slow to interest me any more this year.
