Some years back, I remember Utah offered a lifetime fishing license. Does it still exist? If not, has anyone heard any discussion of why or why not?

They were discontinued over 10 years ago. It was right after Utah had a bad winter and a major winter kill of deer. They state was in the process of switching to a draw only deer hunt, and they realized the the lifetime license was a loophole in this system...the legislature decided to close that loophole. Fortunately for me, I bought one in 1991. Best 500 buck I ever spent.

i know that the lifetime licence isnt available any more, but my grandpa just got a disabled permit that is free and is just as good.(lasts the rest of his life i believe) thought some of you might want to know that this is available to disabled people, and pass the word along. (i believe a doctors note explaining how you fit the requirements is all that is needed to get this card... info should be available online, or by calling the DWR)

The state started selling the lifetime license in 1984 I believe and 1993 or 1994 was the year it ended. I heard the reason the state stopped selling the license was they could see they were going to be losing money. License fees were going up and at the rate it was climbing, the folks that bought them would brake even in ten years or less. I 84 a combo license cost $25 and that included a deer tag, by 92, when I bought mine, the cost was up to $35 and I don't think that included the deer tag. I agree with TKB, it was the best $500 I ever spent, I just wish I could have bought one for my son[unsure]. WH2

Have to agree on this one. I sold off my Browning Citori to finance my License #0478. I've since replaced the shotgun, but when they cut off the lifetime permits you were toast. My understanding was they sold only about 1,000 then when they decided to discontinue them there was a rush to the tune of over 3,000 additional permits. Wow!
