Took the toon out sunday afternoon for her maiden spring voyage. Put in at Lindon and headed south out of the harbor draging a bait rod a flipping a few plastics. Started off with a Maniac grub that I picked up, first time I've used the product and I'm very impressed. I got into the wite bass almost immediately and they never turned off. I ended boating 18 or 20 and kept a healthy basket full for a fry tonight. Only 1 fish was under 10". I had several "pop and drops" on the bait rod, but never boated anything with it. I had 1 white bass to the boat with the bait rod before it got off and I long lined several other that felt like whitties. I thought for sure I would pick up a walleye with the whites being that active, but nada, no kitties either. Everything ran smoothly on the first spring voyage which made me happy.
I only changed 1 maniac grub all day, which was very impressive, they usually get pretty chewed up after a couple fish and the one that I did discard was still holding the jig head, but all the cuts in the bait were holding mud on every cast.

[cool][#0000ff]Good report. I have been wanting to hit both sides of Lindon but there are too many places opening up and I can't decide what direction to point my Tubemobile.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]The cats should be active around Lindon, but I usually do better early going north and fishing the area beyond where the creek comes in. There is a big area there that almost always holds cats early...and some bigguns. You just have to find the right depth each day. Sometimes it is 5 or 6 feet. Other days it may be as shallow as 3 feet and you need a bobber to stay out of the bottom snags.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]It really is encouraging to see the rebounding white bass population. They are showing up all around the lake. And, there are plenty of small ones to keep the walleyes and big cats well fed until the new spawn gets big enough to eat.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]I also have my sights set on a couple of new spots on the west side. Too much fishing to do and too little time.[/#0000ff]

I had planned on going north, but that is the direction the wind was blowing and I like to work into the wind so if anything happens I've got it at my back on the way in. I've also had good luck at the bubble up for eyes early on.
I floated all the way to the bubble up, but I only fished over the pipe for a few minutes because there was almost no water comming out of it and I was having too much success in shallower.
Typically I fish for walleye and drag a bait rod just in case there is a cat around. I drug minnows on the bottom on the way out and suspended it under a bobber on the way back in, both got the same amount of marginal action. I'm sure if the fishing was slower and I had chucked by bait in and around the weeds and focused on it a little more I could have picked up a few kitties, but with the whites so hot I pretty much had it chucked out just because.
One more thing, the water temp was 50* at the launch at 1:00pm and 55* when I motored back in about 5:30.

[cool][#0000ff]I question whether you would have done well fishing the reeds for cats yet. They usually stay outside in deeper water until at least mid April, even in "normal" years. This one has been anything but normal.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Surprising there wasn't much around the bubbleup. That spot almost always has fish holding there. But, if there was little or no flow that might explain it. [/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]I have seen the water temps jump up fast too. They were 41 at launch last week and jumped up to 48 at launch at Lincoln Beach on Sunday. Once the temps reach 55 for the low point, the kitties will really get more active. They spawn at 65 to 68 and 55 seems to be a magic temp to get them active...or to slow them down when it gets below that in the fall.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Shoot me a PM when you get a hankerin' to gang up on some of those fishies down there. I'll hold 'em while you hit 'em.[/#0000ff]

I seen you out there sunday in a pontoon . I was in my boat and another boat come over to the bubble up and told me you were nailing the white bass shallow . I fished the bubble up for a spell and only seen a couple fish on the finder . I trolled for a spell out in front of Lindon but no luck for me . I should of come shallow for some whites .

Hey Hells, I forgot to mention that, I was pretty sure that was you. I recognize the boat from some of the pics you've posted. Looked like you were draging worm harnesses or something as slow as you were trolling. You never trolled by close enough to say hi.
As for the bubble up, I did graph a few fish on the north side of the pipe, but I didn't dedicate enough time to them to find out what they were and if they were biting or not.
